The AIDS Project of Southern Vermont is a regional
AIDS service organization providing direct services
to people living with HIV/AIDS, and HIV prevention
services to those at most risk in Windham, Bennington,
and southern Windsor counties. The AIDS Project fills
an important role in making sure that Vermont’s fight
against the AIDS epidemic is strong and effective.

Our prevention program finished the year strong by distributing 7,900 safer sex supplies,
providing 16 HIV presentations, recruiting 19 high risk individuals for CLEAR!, and
performing 59 free and anonymous oral HIV tests (34 through individual requests and
25 as part of Social Networks Testing).

With our new Executive Director, Karen Peterson, the AIDS Project continues to provide
exceptional services to people living with HIV/AIDS and their families in southern Vermont.
Karen has brought a clear leadership style that constantly looks for new and better ways to
proceed while honoring the huge heart and compassion that lives at the center of the Project.
The Board of the AIDS Project added three new members in 2014, is actively involved in
Marlboro College’s Board Leadership program and is creating new fundraising activities. We
continue to work on our commitment to educating people, especially youth, that AIDS has not
gone away and needs to be taken seriously.
Over 90 people joined us at our 27th Annual Walk for Life as we celebrated the lives of those
living with HIV/AIDS and honored those who have passed away. The 2014 Walk was dedicated
to Shirley Squires for raising over $250,000, to honor her son Ron, and for her support of the
work of the Project.
Our direct service programs continue to be successful in meeting the needs of people living
with HIV/AIDS in our community by ensuring access to state-of-the-art healthcare, stable
housing, nutritional food, and compassionate support networks.
