In Unit 1, we will learn the characteristics of living things

In Unit 1, we will learn the characteristics of living things
and how animals and plants are classified. We will explore
how organisms grow and reproduce, how traits are passed
from one generation to the next, and adaptations that allow
plants and animals to live in water and on land. Finally, we
will discover what makes up an ecosystem and describe how
energy moves through an ecosystem.
When studying the classification of living things, we will
experience first-hand how scientists are continually
discovering new organisms and thus, changing how
organisms are classified. The kingdom Archaebacteria used
to be part of a bigger kingdom - Moneran. Now, scientists
feel the Moneran kingdom, which is the older of the
kingdoms, should really be divided into two kingdoms -- The
Archaebacteria Kingdom and the Eubacteria Kingdom.

In Unit 2, we will learn the forms and properties of matter.
Learning to classify the basic elements and the smaller
particles of which they are made, as well as how they
combine to make other substances, help us understand and
describe the physical world around us.
