Public Educator/Attendant Do you enjoy working with people in an environment filled with animals and plants? Como Park Zoo and Conservatory is now hiring part-time, seasonal Zoo and Conservatory Public Educators/Attendants (official title: Parks and Recreation Worker II). This position is hourly ($10.50 per hour, 20-30 hours/week). Public Educators provide excellent customer service for Zoo and Conservatory visitors 365 days a year. Public Educators teach visitors about the plants and animals at Como Park Zoo and Conservatory. This position includes work in both indoor and outdoor settings. Experience working with plants, animals and a diverse audience is preferred. Como Park Zoo and Conservatory also prefers applicants with CPR and First Aid certification, public speaking skills, second language skills, and college experience in life sciences, education or related fields. Job Responsibilities: Enthusiastically interpret plants and animals to the public in an informal setting Welcome, guide and orient Como visitors Represent Como Park Zoo and Conservatory in a professional manner by being cheerful, courteous, knowledgeable and well-groomed Follow established policies and procedures at Como Park Zoo and Conservatory Greet and support volunteers Assist with administering first aid and giving CPR, if certified Requirements High School Diploma or General Education Development Certificate (GED) Must be able to work 20-30 hours per week through Labor Day Must be available to work weekends and holidays Must be available for a three-day, mandatory training session: March 10, 15 & 21 or May 16, 17 & 19 Must be able to stand for four hours at a time Must be able to work indoors and outdoors, in all weather and temperature conditions Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively over the radio and public address system Must be self-motivated, outgoing, well-spoken and display leadership skills Must attend ongoing trainings on plant and animal interpretation Must be able to lift 50 pounds Must pass a criminal background check THIS IS A TEMPORARY HIRE.
