Agreed TREASURER’S REPORT: Pat advised that the bank account balance stood at $3242.20 – reconciliation not completed due to extra work involved at Street Fair time. Application for Membership on behalf of Yandina Butchery was seconded by Jill Pawson. Agreed. Sheila to advise. PRESIDENT’S REPORT: No report. LOCAL GOVERNMENT REPORT: On behalf of the Ginger Factory, Carolyn asked for an update on signage for the Ginger Factory and other local business, e.g., the Spirit House, from Cr Rogerson. Carolyn also showed photographs of areas where signage could be erected. Cr Rogerson apologised for failing to get back to Corrine and asked that relevant emails be forwarded to him again together with the photos. Pat requested that the Chamber Secretary be copied in on these too. Carolyn also reported the need for public transport to the local tourist spots. Cr Rogerson reported on the following items: King George VI Park: New toilet facilities completed next to the skate board park. Looking good. Sports Complex Car Parks: The entrance to the car park near the BMX track and the car park itself is being upgraded. The car park near the soccer club has had curbing done and will be asphalted. This will be a great facility for the complex. Round-about - Stevens Street: Considerable realignment of streets leading to roundabout required – high costs involved. Bundling of electricity: Will take place after the Street Fair. RV Parking on Railway land: Still looking into this. IGA Entrance: Has been upgraded at their own volition. Members commented that lights at intersection needed recalibration due to increased traffic. Also one light was out on one of the poles. Historic House: Pat asked Cr Rogerson if he could arrange to have yellow lines marked at each side of the entrance to the Historic House as visibility was impaired due to workers’ cars parked right up to the entrance itself. Cr Rogerson will look into this. Street Fair: Pat reported that the Street Fair was all go. Narelle had met with the Council representative regarding mowing, fencing, electricity, etc. TED O’BRIEN: DATE OF NEXT MEETING: AGM DATE: At this time, Ted O’Brien was given the floor to introduce himself and explain how he envisaged his role in Federal politics should he be elected for Fairfax. Ted advised members that pre-polling opened on 20 August. The important thing is that all levels of government work together – local, state and federal. In this way, the likelihood of things getting done is very high. Prioritising needs over the next 10-15 years is essential. In the past, Queensland has relied mainly on tourism and population growth. Now and in the future, government must diversify and create sustainable industry in Queensland perhaps in the food processing, health, etc., industries. Bo Tynan (Steps) said she had been successful in obtaining funding to place employees in small businesses for training for 15hours/week for 6 months at no charge to the employer. Tuesday 10 September 2013 at 6pm at the Ginger Factory. This meeting will be a Forum Meeting. The AGM of the Yandina Chamber of Commerce will be held prior to the normal meeting of the Chamber on 8 October 2013 at 6pm at the Bowls Club. There being no further business, the meeting closed at 7.25 pm Signed: _____________________ Dated: ________________
