Singin` Your Wei Through Tishrei

THE JEWISH EDUCATOR: THE TISHREI HOLIDAYS
singing your wei through tishrei
Susan Shane-Linder
SESSION SUMMARY
This session helped participants connect to the holidays in Tishrei through music in a fun and
memorable way! They focused on translating prayers and songs into the language of students and
creating memories that are meaningful and relevant. They explored age-appropriate music repertoire,
stories, techniques, and language that encourage both an open mind and an open heart for prayer and
songs. They sang everything from the “oldies but goodies” to some of the latest hits that will excite
students and hopefully keep them singin’ and remembering these songs for a lifetime.

Then the whale spat him up and Jonah went to Ninaveh.
He told the Ninavinians, “You better do what’s right!”

Then God taught him a lesson that each of us should follow,
By looking at ourselves and the deeds that we have done.

THE YOM KIPPUR I’M SORRY BLUES
WORDS & MUSIC BY: Lisa Ann Green
G
G7 C
Eb D7
G
CHORUS: Well I’m sorry, I’m sorry, yes it’s true. I apologize.
) 2X
G
D7
Well, it’s hard to say you’re sorry. It isn’t lots of fun.
C7
G
Admitting that you’ve done bad things. And that you hurt someone. CHORUS:
But you’ll feel so much better, you’ll feel so good inside.
For letting out the secrets, that you have tried to hide. CHORUS:
My mamma told me, “put away your toys”, but I ignored her once again.
My daddy told me, “Don’t make so much noise”, when I was screaming with my friends.
CHORUS:
I fed my Brussels sprouts to my puppy, instead of eating them myself.
And I then spat some in a napkin, and put them high up on a shelf. CHORUS:
C
G
Well, a sin is a mistake you made, like being nasty to a friend.
C
D7
But if you truly are repentant, you say you won’t do that again.
So I told my dad I’m sorry, that I was being rude.
And then I told the dog I’m sorry, that I ate up all her food. CHORUS:
I made a baby powder snowstorm, I took dad’s boots and tried to ski.
And when my momma asked who did it, Y’know I said it wasn’t me. CHORUS:
I was mean to my baby sister, I took five cookies when mom said two.
I poked a hole in my new sweater, I wrote with crayons on my shoe. CHORUS:
I made rude noises at the dinner table, I whined and cried in a public place.
And when my baby sitter said, “it’s time for bed!” I made a really awful face.
Well, I told my dad that I had brushed my teeth, when all I did was wet the brush.
I used up all the toilet paper, and then forgot to flush. CHORUS:
