Grade 10 Applied
Overall Expectations
Students will:
• Use their knowledge of ratio and proportion to investigate similar triangles and solve problems related to similarity (MTV.01)
• Solve problems involving right triangles, using the primary trigonometric ratios and the Pythagorean theorem (MTV.02)
• Solve problems involving the surface areas and volumes of three-dimensional figures, and use the imperial and metric systems of
measurement (MTV.03)
• Manipulate and solve algebraic equations, as needed to solve problems (MLV.01)
Specific Expectations
Students will:
• Verify, through investigation, properties of similar triangles (MT1.01)
• Determine the lengths of sides of similar triangles, using proportional reasoning (MT1.02)
• Solve problems involving similar triangles in realistic situations (MT1.03)
• Determine the measures of the sides and angles in right triangles, using the primary trigonometric ratios and the Pythagorean
theorem (MT2.02)
• Solve problems involving the measures of sides and angles in right triangles in real life applications, using the primary
trigonometric ratios and the Pythagorean theorem (MT2.03)
• Perform everyday conversions between the imperial system and the metric system and within these systems, as necessary to
solve problems involving measurement (MT3.02)
• Solve first-degree equations involving one variable, including equations with fractional coefficients (ML1.01)
• Determine the value of a variable in the first degree, using a formula (i.e., by isolating the variable and then substituting known
values; by substituting known values and then solving for the variable) (ML1.02)
