Creating a License File
This document provides instructions for creating the license file necessary to deploy
TI-Nspire™ computer software over a network.
Order Confirmation Email
When an order is placed for TI-Nspire™ computer software, the purchaser receives
an email confirming the order. This email includes a text file attachment
containing licensing information required for network deployment of multiple
copies of the software.

In the following example, the text attachment has been saved as a file called
Emailed-License.txt. If you open and view the file, you will see information
similar to that shown below (actual license information has been removed).
The information in the file includes the product name, license number and serial
number for each license you have purchased.
Preparing the Text File
Preparing the text file for network deployment involves the following steps:

Downloading the resulting file to include in your network deployment

Importing the text file into Microsoft® Excel
In order to prepare the licensing information for use in a network deployment, you
must import the data into a spreadsheet program such as Microsoft® Excel.
To import data from the text file:
1. Open a workbook.
2. Select Data > Import External Data > Import Data.
3. Select the file to import.

The Text Import Wizard displays, recognizing the data you are importing as
delimited.
4. Click Next to move to the next step.

Note that Tab, not Comma is the default delimiter.
5. Click the checkbox next to Comma, and click next to move to the next step.

Note that the Column data format displays above each column of data.

6. Highlight the third column of data and click Text to change the format of the
column from General to Text.
7. Click Finish to complete the import.
A dialog displays, asking where you want to put the data.

8. Select Existing worksheet, and click OK.
The license data populates the worksheet. Column A is the product information.
Column B contains the license number, and Column C contains the serial number.

Saving the file as MS-DOS CSV format
The license information must be saved in MS-DOS CSV format before it can be
encrypted.
1. Select File -> Save As.
2. Select CSV (MS-DOS)(.csv) as the file format.
3. Click Save.

A dialog displays, telling you that the format you selected does not support
workbooks containing multiple sheets.
4. Click OK to continue.
Another dialog appears, telling you that your file contains features not
compatible with CSV (MS-DOS) format.

Your data is now in the correct format.

Adding Machine Names
Now that your license data is in the correct format, you must add a column (D)
which contains the machine name associated with each license number/serial
number pair. This information is required before the file can be uploaded for
encryption.
When you have added the required information, you are ready to save the file.
1. Select File > Save.
2. Click OK to continue.
3. Click Yes to continue.

6. Save the file as license.csv.

9. Click Yes to continue.
Your license.csv file is complete and ready to be uploaded to the network admin
site for encryption.
Note: If you open the file again in Excel, it is important not to save the changes
that Excel makes. Use Notepad to open the file and verify the information you
have entered. If changes are required, you should make them in Notepad.

Uploading the license.csv File for Encryption
Now, you are ready to upload the file to the network admin support site for
encryption. The result of this process is the license.sc file, which is required for
network deployment of TI-Nspire software.
Go to the encryption web site (the link is provided in the sales order email) and
follow the instructions provided to encrypt your license file.
