FAMILY FAITH TALK WE: “We Baptize” Acts 2:36-41 The Family Faith Talk section is designed to help you bring what we talked about in worship home with you. Take some time during the week to work through the following activity and questions to dig deeper as a family into God’s Word. Discussion Points: 1. If you had to give a 24-minute speech in front of a large crowd, what topic would you speak on? How would you prefer to give your talk—well prepared ahead of time or impromptu? 2. Read Acts 2:36-41. 3. When Peter stood up to speak, who stood up with him? What items stand out for you from his sermon? 4. Read v.22-24, what did Peter say about Jesus? How did the hearers respond to Peter’s words? What are they instructed to do? 5. Tell your story as a Christian. Were you baptized as an infant? Did you grow up in the church? What life events did God use to grow you in your faith? 6. Do you remember your Baptism? What is Baptism? What is the importance of Baptism to you and your faith? 7. In what ways could you be more like Peter? Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the outpouring of Your Spirit You so freely splash into my life. Its grace and forgiveness is life to me. Lead me to live in the promises of my Baptism daily, remembering its power to save. In Jesus’ name, Amen. I. Intro: Plugged in II. On the heels of Pentecost – excited, motivated, changed – Peter stands to __________________________ a Christ-centered sermon that impacts 3,000 lives “Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested to you by God with mighty works and wonders and signs that God did through him in your midst, as you yourselves know— this Jesus, delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men.” (Acts 2:22-23 ESV) Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” (Acts 2:37 ESV) II. The “WE” of Baptism: A. Baptism is an __________________________________ moment Don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. (Romans 6:3-4 NIV) B. In Baptism, God is _________________________________ at work Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.” (Acts 2:38-39 NIV) C. Baptism doesn’t __________________________ at the font Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. (Ephesians 1:4-5 NLT) 23 24
