Fall Application Results In Kansas, Okla. a bermudagrass field was fertilized in September 2012 with Supreme Plant Food 32-0-0. The fertilizer was applied at 64 ounces per acre. After application, it received a one-time rain of 4 inches. It was grazed down to less than 3 inches. Temperatures ranged from 50° to 60° nights and 70° to 80° days. First application should be in the spring for quick and strong growth of plants. It will fuel the plant as it breaks dormancy and maximize growth. In 20 days, the grass grew 10 inches. It produced two bales to the acre (5x6 bales weighing about 1,800 pounds). The grass continued to grow until frost, and it grew an additional 4 inches after the first cutting. Second application should be after the first cutting or after 30-60 days of grazing. Side by Side Comparison Third application should be in the fall to assist the plants in recovering from the summer. This application should focus on nutrients crucial to root development. A professional applicator in Telephone, Texas applied 1 gallon per acre of Supreme Plant Food 32-0-0 on half of a wheat grass field, and 9 gallons per acre of UAN 32-0-0 on the other half. An August or September application is necessary for stockpiling grass for winter. University studies show that grass fertilized in late summer and early fall carry higher protein levels into the winter months. Following application, he noted Royal-Grow did not burn his wheat, while the traditional did. The RoyalGrow plot produced 7 more 4x5 bales. A tissue analysis also showed the Royal-Grow bales were higher quality.
