Hartt Community Division Mission Statement
Our Mission is to enrich lives through innovative and unparalleled performing arts education.
Program Description
Information
Connecticut Children’s Chorus (CCC) unites the youth of greater Hartford through our unparalleled choral training program.
We create life-changing musical experiences for highly passionate and skilled young musicians in a supportive, communitycentered environment where students’ enthusiasm and love for music is nurtured. Our singers transcend social barriers, make
meaningful connections, and build important life skills, while celebrating global awareness.
The award-winning Connecticut Children’s Chorus (CCC) is the region’s most
comprehensive auditioned youth choral program. Founded in 1991 within The
Hartt School Community Division, CCC has grown from one 60-voice choir to
six choirs encompassing over 140 students (grades 1 through 12) from 40
Connecticut communities. Through a variety of musical experiences guided by
dedicated, accomplished directors, choir members have the opportunity to:
 Develop comprehensive musicianship skills including reading music
notation, healthy vocal production, ear training, movement, and
musical interpretation.
 Engage in music making through a rich repertoire of choral music from
different time periods and different cultures.
 Perform with professional musical organizations such as the Hartford Symphony, the Hartford Chorale, the New
Haven Chorale, the Hartt Symphony, other outstanding children’s choirs from around the country, and professional
tour artists that come through Connecticut.
 Develop self-esteem and a sense of musical accomplishment.
 Interact with other passionate and skilled peers from different towns in the Hartford area.
 Travel to choral festivals and conferences in the U.S. and abroad.
 Work with professional composers and guest directors.
Membership
Connecticut Children’s Chorus (CCC) is comprised of 7 choirs divided into our Junior and Senior Division and sequenced by
age and ability.
Junior Division
The Junior Division is comprised of Overture Choir, Prelude Choir, and Canticum Choir. These choirs focus on foundational
choral and musical training.
Senior Division
The Senior Division is comprised of Concert Choir, Women’s Choir, Men’s Choir, and Primi Voci. The Men’s and
Women’s ensembles join together to form an advanced mixed choir. Singers in the Senior Division can expect more rigorous
performance schedules, and a greater focus on interpreting music at a high level. Our Senior ensembles combine to form the
Summer Tour Choir and have the opportunity to travel.
Advancement and Auditions
Auditions for the Connecticut Children’s Chorus program primarily take place in June of each year as part of The Hartt
School Community Division Audition Festivals. Auditions may also be set up by appointment throughout the academic year
by contacting the Hartt Community Division Main Office. Auditions for the 2017-18 year will take place on June 11th, 2017.

Registration
Students who are accepted into Connecticut Children’s Chorus must register online with appropriate deposit paid before
the first rehearsal. Completion of online registration and accepting a position in CCC by attendance constitutes agreement
with all policies stated in this handbook. We recommend that you carefully review this document and the attendance policies
in particular.
Students and parents/guardians should review the calendar and handbook. Being a member of CCC is a serious commitment.
Participants who do not fulfill his/her commitment to the organization may jeopardize current and future membership in the
organization.
Attendance Policy
Attendance and active full participation at rehearsals and classes is crucial to the success of any organization. It is expected
that all members will demonstrate responsibility, punctuality, and dependability as part of their commitment to the
ensemble. If a student knows that he/she will have to be absent from a rehearsal or class an Absence Form (see page 6) must
be completed and turned in to the parent manager. In the case of illness, members are expected to email their ensemble
manager at the ensemble’s respective email. At the next rehearsal or class, the student must fill out an Absence Form and
turn it in to the manager. Students are allotted 3 absences per concert cycle. Excessive absence (more than three times per
semester) is not acceptable and may result in dismissal without refund for tuition and fees. If students must exceed 3
absences per semester, they must contact the conductor directly and apply for an additional absence. Should this application
be declined, the student must attend the rehearsal or will be asked to resign from their place in the ensemble without refund
for tuition and fees. All absences (either planned or unplanned) count towards the student’s absence count for the
semester.
Student Expectations
At Rehearsals
Students are expected to
• be in place, ready to begin with music and materials at the designated time
• be attentive to all directions and follow them quickly
• be responsible for knowing assigned music
• have a sharpened pencil available at all times
• handle business matters with the director or manager prior to rehearsal
• Folders should be neat and organized
• Participants should have the enclosed CCC calendar where it is easily accessible
• Water is the only beverage allowed in rehearsals
3
At Performances
Students are expected to
• be in place, ready to sing, at the designated time
• wear the designated uniform for their performing group (altered uniforms are not permitted)
• refrain from wearing perfume or cologne
• refrain from consuming dairy products
• not use handheld video games or other electronics devices (including cell phones)
Music Folder Policy
Each singer will be issued a black three-ring binder with music (with the exception of Overture choir participants). Students
are expected to maintain their folder, keeping it organized, clean and “performance ready”. The binder and all music is the
property of The Hartt School Community Division, and are being loaned to each singer.
Students/Families will be response for the replacement cost of all lost or damaged music and materials, and can expect to be
billed $25.00 for each replacement binder and its contents.
Behavior Policy
Although behavior is rarely an issue, we still must outline our Behavior Policy. When behavioral problems do arise, we have
a protocol in place that is fair to the student, family, and CCC. Below is the process for mitigating behavioral issues:
·
·
·
·
·
·
First Offense- student sits with parent manager for the remainder of the rehearsal.
Second Offense- student sits with parent manager and Director contacts parents to discuss the issue.
Third Offense- Student, Parent and Director formally meet to develop appropriate strategies for helping the student
learn how to self-monitor behavior.
Fourth Offense- Student, Parent and Director meet with the Artistic Director to review behavior and expectations.
Fifth Offense- Parent, student and director meet with the Hartt Community Division Director (or designee).
Sixth Offense- student is dismissed from the group and no tuition is refunded.
Managers will keep track of where students are in the behavioral process. Each offense (whether it is the same or different)
will move the student to the next level of behavioral intervention.
Withdrawal Policy
Please note: Absence does not constitute a withdrawal from any program. A signed registration form constitutes
agreement to pay tuition in full, regardless of how much has actually been paid at the time of withdrawal.
All students register for an entire academic year (September through June) and tuition and fees are assessed for the full
academic year. Tuition may be prorated for students who begin become members after the start of the academic year.
Absence and/or verbal notice is not sufficient for withdrawal notification. All requests for withdrawal must be made in
writing to the Registrar. Withdrawal at any time is subject to the following program-specific penalties:
Ensembles, Choirs and Group Classes:
Withdrawal prior to the 1st rehearsal/class
-$30 cancellation fee
Withdrawal received prior to October 1st, 2016
-Partial penalty based on the number of rehearsals/classes held plus a $30 cancellation fee
Withdrawal on or after October 1st, 2016**
-Full year tuition penalty
**Note: there are no mid-year withdrawals for Ensembles, Choirs and Group classes. Students will be responsible for
the full tuition after October 1st, 2016, plus any applicable fees associated with their account.
Please see our Academic Year 2016-2017 Policies packet for more information regarding Billing, Medical Withdrawals, and
Delinquent Accounts.
