City Government
The City of Draper has a Council/City Manager form of
government. The Mayor resides as the chair of the City
Council. The Council is comprised of five voting
Council members and the Mayor who votes in the case
of a tie. The Deputy Police Chief reports directly to the
Police Chief.
Council members are elected at large, serve four-year
terms and are responsible for exercising Draper City’s
legislative and executive powers. The Mayor is the
Chair and presides at all meetings of the City Council.

Qualifications
The Position
Candidates must have seven (7) years
of progressively responsible law
enforcement experience as a full-time,
sworn police officer with at least two
(2) years of experience as a Police
Sergeant and a Bachelor’s degree in
law enforcement or related field.
Master’s degree desirable and
command staff level experience
preferred. The candidate must have
current certification as a sworn Law
Enforcement Officer (L.E.O.) in Utah
or have the ability to obtain such
certification at time of employment.
Candidates must have or obtain a
valid Utah driver’s license, be able to
pass pre-employment drug testing, a
drivers license check and a criminal
background check. This is an “at-will”
FLSA exempt position.

Draper is seeking a highly respected law
enforcement professional who is an active
listener, consensus builder and excellent
communicator. The City is looking for a law
enforcement professional who values the
opportunity to be a partner with the Police
Chief and City officials in taking a good police
department to a new level of service delivery.
The City is currently in the process of
expanding its police facility.
The Police
Department consists of 40 law enforcement
officers, plus support staff.
This position is expected to be filled by MidFebruary. The most qualified candidates will
be invited to participate in a series of oral
panels tentatively scheduled for the first week
of January. It is expected that finalists will
interview with the Chief of Police the third
week of January.
