Well here we are half way through the year and finally mother nature is treating us
with some great riding weather, after the monsoon season. As we approach the longest day of light during the year, we have every opportunity to make some super evening Hog Waller, Rides out of town to various eating places. I am sure there is something to please everyone’s palate. Sure would be nice to see some new faces at some
of these super ride to match the various cuisines, so come on out to either the
Wednesday evening or Friday food fests while enjoying the friendship of your fellow
hogs if only just for a cool one. Well enough of my preaching to the choir. Get ready
as the summer is just starting to get busy, Montana State Hog Rally, Evel Knievel Days,
Lincoln Bike Rally, Iron Horse Rally and the biggee Sturgis. So make sure that your rear
fits well in the saddle of Your old Iron Horse while you put some miles on the old
Bode and enjoy the summer. I am looking forward to seeing you all at some of these
events. So it’s time to silence my flopping jaws and get to riding. See you all out on
the asphalt, keep the rubber side down!! Sam I Am, HogFather

The Perfect Shot
Bob stood over his tee
shot for what seemed an
eternity. He waggled,
looked up, looked down,
waggled again, but didn't
start his back swing.
Finally his exasperated
partner asked, "what the
hell is taking so long?"
"My wife is up there
watching me from the
clubhouse," Bob explained. "I want to make a
perfect shot."
"Good lord!" his companion
exclaimed. "You don't have
a snowball's chance in hell
of hitting her from here."

June is here and many of us are anxious to plan a long tour-usually the first one of
the year. I have seen many experienced riders,
including myself, fail to plan for
the severe thunderstorms that occur in Montana and the other Great Plains
States. Being caught in a sudden downpour can be extremely dangerous for the
unprepared biker. Here are some tips to help get through bad weather safely.
1. Always have a helmet with a face shield. Absolute necessity.
2. Have waterproof rain suits for rider and passenger on board.
3. Put on the rain suits before the storm hits! Many times I've seen bikers at the
side of the road trying to suit up in blowing rain!
4. Occasionally practice putting on your rain gear. Amazing how hard it is if you are
in an emergency
5. Ride in heavy rain with the speed of traffic. If the Semi's start passing your bike,
you'll be in trouble. Stay ahead of them and ride the far right side of the lane if
you're being passed.
6. If your fearful and having difficulty keeping the bike on the road, find a place to
stop and wait it out. An Interstate underpass works.
7. Do not get too cold and have an extra pair of waterproof gloves. Many times I've
changed out my soaked Summer gloves at rest areas or chain-up sites. Cold dampens
your reaction time and concentration.
Ride safe and enjoy the Summer! - Mike

First things first! We have struggled in the past trying to get LOH off the ground. There
was a lot of interest but no one seemed to be able to breath life into a great program.
This year has seen the resurrection of a truly wonderful LOH group of ladies that are
keeping this chapter, and me, on my toes. The poker runs, LOH activities and interactions have been a breath of fresh air that this chapter needed for a long time. And hey,
when the ladies are happy, we all benefit! Thanks LOH for a great year so far, and keep
it coming!
June 27th is our next major event. Brian and the entire staff of Big Sky invite all of you
to attend his anniversary celebration. This will be and event for the record books.
Vendors, bike show, dealer incentives and specials all weekend so mark you calendars
and we will see you at the dealership. July 17th - 19th is the State Rally in Missoula. I
urge all of you to show support for your state Rally's as they may soon become a thing
of the past. Planning, expenses, and other factors have the Harley Gods taking a good
hard look at individual state rally's. If the support, and by support I mean monetary
and rider participation is not strong enough, our State rally's may soon become a
"regional" event. I for one would really hate to loose that special interaction we get
to share with other chapters. Please consider attending, even it is for just a day. A lot
of work and effort go into planning a State rally, and I personally feel we need to keep
them active.
Following the State Rally in July, we are riding straight into the Sturgis event, more
chapter runs, special activities that are being planned and even a few surprises down
the road.
As always, ride safe, ride within your comfort level but as usual Just Ride. - Jim O
