Headteacher Headlines
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back and I would like to wish you and your families a happy and healthy 2016. The
children have had a very good week back at school and are all settled into their normal
routines. Behaviour on the whole has been fantastic and we are working hard on our manners in
particular this half term. School staff have been busy tweaking our current Behaviour Policy with
the clear emphasis on positive rewards. Once ratified by the Governing Board, I will be looking to
publish the new policy on the website and hold briefing sessions with parents so you can have
the most up to date information regarding our behaviour expectations.
Attendance has also risen to our highest level at the end of the last half term so thank you for
getting your children into school. It is crucial they attend school as much as possible so they do
not miss vital learning and we will be producing a new Attendance Policy plus some simplified
leaflets over the course of the half term. Our whole school aim is 97% by the end of this
academic year, a hard target to reach as we have never done it previously. However, we
continue with our motto of aiming high. In light of this we will looking to issue Fixed Penalty
Notices in future for unauthorised absence over a sustained period of time.
Can I also remind you to please ensure that all of your contact details are up to date, including
mobile numbers. We sometimes need to contact parents in emergencies so must have the
correct details. There are also number of educational visits that occur over the course of each
term for instance; please see your child’s class teacher if you are able to support on any of these
trips.
I have been amazed and truly blown away by the outstanding examples of homework topic
work that has been coming into school. I can see families must have been busy over the holidays
and I would like to thank all those who have got involved. It makes our learning environment so
much more inspiring and I hope you have enjoyed helping your child complete them.
On the 8th February, during our Arts Week, we will be celebrating Chinese New Year. The kitchen
will put on a special Chinese menu and children will be taking part in a range of activities
throughout the day. If you wish to dress up then feel free but you are under no obligation to do
so, after all red is considered to be the luckiest Chinese colour. This year is the Year of the
Monkey.
Finally, now that our clubs are up and running again, please remember that our after school
clubs finish at 4.30pm on the dot. Please ensure that your child is collected on time.
Best wishes in 2016 from all the staff at Upton Priory School.
