JAYSA K5 WWW.AHOOTOFAK5CLASS.BLOGSPOT.COM April was a very busy month for us but that is nothing new at the Campus School! Our studies included the life cycles of bugs, the life cycles and habitats of animals, what plants need to grow, and the Earth’s properties. We had our Easter party at the school and then went on a field trip the next day to The Barnyard in Tuscaloosa where we saw and fed many animals and had our Easter Egg Hunt. NAEYC’s Week of the Young Child was April 12-18th and we celebrated all week long. We made a music video with Dr. Howard’s class, ate dessert tacos for Taco Tuesday, and made and let go Messages in Balloons for Work Together Wednesday. We enjoyed visited the Living History Camp downtown for the Sucarnochee Festival weekend. The Mississippi Symphony Orchestra Brass Quintet made their annual visit with us and they are always so entertaining! We always appreciate them taking the time to visit us. Ms. Matlock also invited our class to watch the Little Bit Circus at Sumter Academy which was also bittersweet as it will be her last. We ended the month celebrating our very special class by going to CHOM and eating at Mellow Mushroom. I cannot begin to express my love and extreme adoration I have for this, my first kindergarten class. I could not have asked for a brighter, happier, or more eager class of students. They have made this an easy transition for me and each student will always hold a special place in my heart and I can only hope to remain a small brick in the foundation of the wonderful education that I know is in their wonderful futures. Thank you for a wonderful school year Mabry, Rebecca, Matt, Kayla, Marissa, Miles, Katelyn, Rob, and Jayla. You will always have a home and open arms waiting here at the Campus School! MS. BROOKE K4 WWW.WHATSTHEBUZZINK4.BLOGSPOT.COM Spring is here! We have studied so much about spring. We discussed all the new animals that were born in the spring and the classifications that the animals belong to. We discussed spring plants and what all they need to grow. We even planted flowers and beans of our own! We also visited the UWA Blackbelt Gardens where we helped weed, donated to the compost, and dug for earth worms. During this time, we also discussed the importance this all brings to Earth, celebrated Earth Day, and even discussed the different properties of Earth. April also celebrates “The Week of the Young Child”. All week we did so many fun activities. There was Music Monday where we made our own dance video. Taco Tuesday we made dessert tacos with Ms. Kim. On Wednesday we all wrote letters to other children around Alabama, put our messages in a balloon, and then released the balloons on the UWA football field. We wrapped up the week with Artsy Thursday and Family Friday. For a surprise, we were visited by the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra and they played us some beautiful music. We really enjoyed them so much! For the last week of April, we are studying Alabama. So far, we have discovered our State’s bird, flower, tree, flag, seal, and rivers. We will continue studying about Alabama in the first week of May and then we will begin practicing for graduation!! 7 MS. ALISON P3- K4 WWW.SOARINGWITHP3AND4.BLOGSPOT.COM April showers bring May flowers, and we have had a fair share of rain this past month. We have been busy bees learning about the lifecycle of animals and their classifications. The children have made a lifecycle of a frog, ladybug and butterfly. We have also learned all about what plants need to grow. The children planted lima beans in a cup and are watching them grow. We celebrated the Week of the Young Child, and the children absolutely loved the daily activities that were planned for them. Dr. Howard’s college students came over and videoed the children singing and dancing to the song called “Thingamajig”. They had a ball dancing and finding a “thingamajig” in the classroom. Finally we wrapped up the month with learning about earth and its properties. We made green and blue earths using tissue paper. On Earth Day we walked over to the UWA gardens and experienced “hands-on” activities. The students tossed orange peelings into a planter box where they found live worms. Next, they put on gloves and pulled weeds in the UWA garden area. We went on a bug hunt around our school using magnifying glasses and found a lot of ants, ladybugs and rolly pollies. The children enjoyed being blindfolded and fishing for bugs and being able to describe what type of critters they were able to catch during the lesson. Finally, we wrapped up the month with learning about earth and its properties. May is here, so we will be extremely busy with end of the year activities ranging from the dance/gymnastics recital, to Cinco De Mayo day, to Muffins for Mom, to the end of the year program and preparing for a fun and creative summer for the children attending the Campus School this summer. Hang on tight because May will flash right before our eyes. Ms. Kim P3 WWW.PRECIOUSTHREES.BLOGSPOT.COM April brought many showers so lots of flowers should be coming very soon. We enjoyed a month filled with learning and excitement. We started April learning about life cycles of different animals and their habitats. During the next couple of weeks, we talked about plants and what they needed to grow. We planted our very own lima beans and have seen them grow from small seeds into nice green plants with pretty full leaves and stems. We can’t wait to see how well our garden will grow the rest of the school year. We also visited the Black Belt Garden and planted seeds in a different way. We hope that those seeds are as productive as the ones we have planted in the past. During the Week of the Young Child we celebrated US! We had an exceptional time with all of the fun activities planned by the faculty, staff, and some of the UWA students. We made a music video and sang and danced. Then, we ate really healthy dessert tacos on Taco Tuesday. On Wednesday, we “WORKED TOGETHER” to put messages in balloons that we released. Some of our friends have already gotten messages back all the way from Talladega, Alabama, where their balloon traveled. We finished off WOYC with a parent open house hosted by Dr. Minear’s students as we played in centers made by them. We had so much fun and appreciate everyone’s hard work and dedication to our program. The last weeks of April, we discussed the importance of taking care of the earth, our planet and yours. We will continue to take care of our earth as we move on into the month of May where we will celebrate Mothers’ Day and the end of our school year. Soon we will have an End of the Year Recognition Ceremony on Friday, May 15th at 10:00a.m. at Lyon Hall Auditorium.
