Our team: C‐Sections, Group‐B Strep and Babies with colic: A trip through the vaginal canal is often baby’s first exposure to a healthy gastrointestinal flora. There are certain situations that may interfere with this exposure, such as women having to take antibiotics for Group‐B Strep during labor, or in C‐section deliveries. In these situations if we see that the baby is exhibiting signs of indigestion or colic, we would consider supplementing them with an infant probiotic to increase their levels of gut‐friendly bacteria. Speak to your naturopath if one of these situations applies to you, and bring your baby in for a naturopathic assessment! HMF Natogen Infant Probiotic……..$29.50
Trouble With Ovulation? Vitex agnus‐chastus (otherwise known as ‘Chaste Tree’) is an herb that can help women ovulate on a regular schedule, and can stimulate ovulation in women who are not currently ovulating (for example in the case of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrom). Vitex stimulates the pituitary gland (in the brain) to release more luteinizing hormone, and thus causing an increase in progesterone production by the corpus luteum. Vitex can also decrease the amount of prolactin in the body, which is a hormone that is often responsible for suppressing ovulation and healthy fertility. Vitex takes approximately 3‐
6 months to take effect, so don’t expect immediate results! Vitex can be found in Vitanica’s ‘Fem Rebalance’ supplement, which is a comprehensive herbal blend of botanicals that create a healthy hormone balance in women with a variety of hormonal imbalances. Ask Dr. Anna whether Fem Rebalance is right for you! SPRING SALE! A little extra motivation for you to start your spring cleanse. Pregnancy Heaven! Dr. Sarah Racicot DC Pregnancy, while wonderful, places a tremendous strain on a woman’s body. Even early on in pregnancy the hormones that the body releases act on ligaments particularly in the pelvis which result in low back or pelvis pain and at times, sciatica (pain into the buttock or back of leg). As the belly begins to take over sleeping comfortably becomes a fleeting illusion. Here’s where the “heaven” part comes in: for massage or chiropractic treatments we use a “pregnancy pillow” to accommodate all stages/sizes of a women’s belly so that mom can lie comfortably on her stomach. As a practitioner it allows me to treat the entire back from neck to pelvis with ease rather than having my expectant mom lie on her side. In essence, I can deliver a better treatment which allows for release of the joints, muscles and ligaments of the whole body but more importantly of the low back and pelvis. There’s only one slight problem… most pregnant women find the position so comfortable and treatment too relaxing that they don’t want to leave! Thank you to my pregnant patients who have encouraged me to write this article and share a little piece of heaven!
