As I write this letter, we have students taking portions of the ISAT 2.0. By May 25th, all 625 students should have completed two math and two language arts ISAT tests. 7th graders have also taken a science ISAT. We hope to receive preliminary scores before students leave for summer break. We look forward to seeing how we compare to other middle schools across the district and state. We will evaluate the data to find areas of strength and areas we need to improve on for next year. In the coming weeks, we will be gathering lots of information from your students regarding elective and magnet choices for the 20172018 school year. We welcome the opportunity to talk with you if you have specific questions about our scheduling process or want some more information about our curriculum offerings. Feel free to contact administration or your student’s counselor or teacher for a time to talk. We will be using the district ALP criteria again this coming year for ALP placement. With the arrival of warmer weather comes a change in student dress. Please review the expectations for student dress, which can be found in your son/daughter’s agenda, school website, or school district website (Board Policy 3255). This will help avoid office referrals and school consequences. With all of us working together, we can have a smooth six weeks. Stay tuned for important emails on end-of-year celebrations (6th Grade Silver Rapids Water Park, 7th and 8th Grade Silverwood). Thanks for your continued support of Lakes Magnet Middle School. Jeffrey A. Bengtson Lakes Magnet Middle School Principal Lakes Star Students Thank you Pita Pit! Early release at 12:35 COUNSELORS CORNER (Special submittal by students) “HEY YOU, YEAH YOU. I JUST WANTED TO SAY, DON’T LET PEOPLE PUT YOU DOWN. YOU ARE STRONGER THAN THAT. YOU MAY NOT BE PERFECT, BUT NO ONE IS. IT’S OK TO BE DIFFERENT. YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE. IF SOMEONE CALLS YOU A NAME, BE STRONG. DON’T REACT BECAUSE THAT’S ALL THEY WANT, TRUST ME. AND IF YOU NEED SOMEONE TO TALK TO YOU, YOU HAVE PEOPLE AROUND YOU WHO CARE ABOUT YOU AND LOVE YOU. IF A FRIEND ASKS IF YOU ARE OK, DO NOT SAY, “YEAH I’M FINE”. THE FIRST STEP IN SOLVING A PROBLEM IS ACKNOWLEDGING THERE IS A PROBLEM. ALSO, PLEASE DON’T THINK ABOUT SUICIDE. THAT IS NEVER THE ANSWER. PEOPLE LOVE YOU AND CARE. OUR LIVES ARE JUST BEGINNING, AND ENDING IT SHORT IS ONE OF THE GREATEST TRAGEDIES. IF YOU NEED HELP, TALK TO SOMEONE. DON’T HIDE IN THE SHADOWS. AND IF SOMEONE MAKES FUN OF YOU BECAUSE OF WHAT YOU BELIEVE IN AND SOMEONE JUDGES YOU, SIMPLY DO NOT LISTEN TO THEM BECAUSE THEY DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU COULD BE GOING THROUGH. WELL, I HOPE THIS REACHES PEOPLE BECAUSE BULLYING IS A HUGE PROBLEM IN THE WORLD AND NEEDS TO BE STOPPED.” SINCERELY, NAKKITA GOOD, EMMITT ROGERS (EDITING, AUNA BUCKMASTER) MARCH HIGH FIVE STUDENTS!
