Our very first river cruise JULY—AUGUST 2016 was for the tulips, as this one also will be, but it will take in a different route, more in Northern Holland. Please RSVP so that we may adequately plan for refreshments. T he trip will take place on April 29, 2017. Day One—Arrive in Amsterdam. Drive to Haarlem and board ship. Day Two—Tulip fields abound. A morning excursion takes us along the growing areas. Sail to Enkhuizen (the eastern-most point in Northern Holland), a quintessential fishing village. Visit the quaint town center and the Zuiderzee Museum. Day Three—Choose between guided walk of Enkhuizen or the “Dutch Experience” to meet some of the locals. Cruise southwest to Friesland, dock in Lemmen to visit the The Royal Eisinga Planetarium, a Unesco site. Day Four—Peaceful morning sailing to Lelystand. Visit the Batavia Shipyard, board the “Batavia,” originally built in 1628 and wrecked on its maiden voyage, taking ten years to reconstruct. Later sample the local cheeses and more. Day Five—Sail in the morning. Enjoy onboard lecture and taste sweet local specialties. After lunch visit the Airborne Museum, dedicated to the Battle of Arnhem. Or visit the Kroller-Muller Museum…your choice. Day Six—Rotterdam. After lunch excursion to Gouda. Or visit the Gardens of Keukenhof, 70 acres with seven million flower bulbs planted every year. Day Seven—Guided sight-seeing canal boat tour. Afternoon free. Amsterdam is one of my favorite cities—or you may choose an optional excursion. Disembark the next morning. JUNGLE JIM’S August 19, 2016 ITALY Preview Party September 13—5 PM You’ve been asking me for another trip to Italy. Believe me, it’s no chore to return—as I simply love Italy! We need more to make this a go! Don’t miss out on this fun day. BRICKYARD CAFÉ & OCTAGON HOUSE TOUR October 7, 2016 Jake Simic, a restauranteur from Bosnia, and Robert Stupar, a baker from Croatia, left war-torn Yugoslavia. In 1998, they opened the Brickyard Café in Bowling Green, Kentucky. In the summer of 2005, they saw the perfect place for a new restaurant, PJ’s After lunch we’ll visit the Octagon House and Museum, the only eight-sided house within the state of Kentucky. Imagine that! This is another of Kentucky’s undiscovered places to visit for us, and I’m betting that none of you have even heard of it!
