Monday and Friday
This half term we will be focusing on History, studying the Stone Age to Bronze
Age period. We will be plotting timelines with significant dates/events from the
era. Alongside introducing the terms; Pre-History; neothandadal; hunter; gatherer;
tools; migration; society; artefacts; petroglyphs; Palaeolithic (old stone age – during
the last ice age); middle stone age (Mesolithic), (from the last ice age until the
start of farming); Neolithic (new stone age – start of farming until start of the
Bronze Age); archaeologist; and prehistory. The children will discover what the links
and contrasts were between the Stone Age periods.
There will also be a focus on how we find out about things that are so long ago and
how we use sources of evidence. As well as evaluating the accuracy of evidence and
its usefulness.
In English, we will be completing our nonfiction report writing by contrasting the
education, home life and environmental
features different countries.
We will then move onto our next fiction topic
where the children will listen to a story and
predict what may happen at various points.
They focus on character, setting and mood,
asking questions as the story progresses and
locating evidence in the text.
In Numeracy, will carry on learning our 'learn
it’s' and times tables facts focusing on learning
number facts and number bonds. We will continue
to follow the New Year 3 national objectives by
focusing on place value, development of mental
addition and subtraction methods and begin to
develop our written methods
Telling the time is an important part of the
year 3 curriculum and we would appreciate if
children can review this skill at home.
In Science
In science we will be learning about rocks and soils. Pupils will be taught how to compare and
group together different kinds of rocks on the basis of their appearance and simple physical
properties. Alongside describing in simple terms how fossils are formed when things that
have lived are trapped within rock. We will also develop an understanding that soils are made
from rocks and organic matter.
We are continuing our big push on reading.
We will be restarting the reading race and
books will be checked 3S Monday 3H-Friday.
Please ensure your child brings their reading
book and diary to school every-day.
Please always check the
Friday newsletter and
the website for weekly
