Cardboard Boat Regatta
LOCATION: Camp Falling Rock, Newark, Ohio, Lower Camp
REGISTRATION: In advance by AUGUST 25, 2017Late Registrations Will NOT Receive an event Shirt.
COST: $15.00 per Scout/Scouter Registration includes an Event Tee Shirt
CHECK-IN: Scouts are encouraged to show up Friday evening.
Official Check in time will be 6:00pm at Franklin Lodge. Campsites will be assigned.
FIRE BUILDING ON CAMP SIGHT: If you must have a fire, you must dig a
patch of sod and replace it afterwards. LEAVE NO TRACE!
FIREWOOD: Fire wood is the responsibility of each troop. There is plenty of dead
wood on camp but we can not ensure its dryness.
SANITATION: “Pack It In. Pack It Out.” Every effort will be made to keep our camp
sites clean. Your unit must bring trash bags. LEAVE NO TRACE!
WATER AND FACILITIES: There is water available.
There are bathroom facilities located throughout the camp.
Please be considerate and LEAVE NO TRACE there either. ☺

FOR ALL PATROL LEADERS
Rules and Regulations
Whether at school, work, play, or in a public building there are rules and regulations to
follow. They allow us to work together as well as maintain the standards by which we
live.
CAMP CODE: The Scout Oath and Laws shall be the law of the camp.
FUEL FOR COOKING: When using fuel stoves, please be sure that the fuel is
stored safely. At no time should liquid fuel be used for starting campfires.
WOOD: Use only dead wood for fires. DO NOT CUT DOWN ANY TREES. Be sure
to follow all safety precautions when building a fire.
WATER USE: THE WATER PUMP LOCATED ON SITE IS ONLY FOR
FILLING PATROL WATER CONTAINERS. IT IS NOT TO BE USED FOR
PERSONAL TANKS, HYGIENE, PLAY OR WASHING DISHES AT THE WATER
PUMP.
TENT DITCHING: Digging ditches around tents is prohibited.
LANTERNS: Open flame lights are prohibited in tents. Battery operated lamps are
recommended.
GARBAGE: Please pack all trash out with you when you go. Follow low impact rules
at all times.
FIREWORKS, ECT: Fireworks and firearms are not allowed. Violators will be
asked to leave.
SHEATH KNIVES: SHEATH KNIVES ARE NOT A PART OF THE SCOUT
UNIFORM.
VEHICLE PARKING: Parking will be limited to the lot. Please plan to carpool.
Patrols should plan on packing their gear to the campsite. Vehicles will be limited to
designated parking spaces.
Camp-O-Ree Information
The following demonstrations and skills are planned for the Camp-O-Ree Programming:





Safety Afloat and Water Rescue
Boating Knots
Watercraft Demonstrations
Boater Safety
Boat Construction
The demonstration and skills sessions will be open for the morning hours. Scouts may
come and go as they see fit. The afternoon will be dedicated to final boat construction.
All Scouts attending a full training session in Safety Afloat and Water Rescue will
receive a training card.
Our main goal this weekend is for you to have fun.

All meals will be the responsibility of the individual patrols.
Sponsoring a Webelos Den?
If your troop is hosting a Webelos Den you need to remember this: You are responsible
for helping with campsite setup, cooking, and feeding them. Webelos registration is to
be handled on the Troop level and included with your payment. This is the perfect
opportunity for your troop to build a relationship with a unit.

Cardboard Boat Regatta
RULES: There will be 4 categories for the races. Each Troop/Patrol must register for a
race category. There is no limit on the number of categories or boats that a Troop/Patrol
may enter.
Category 1: Team Race: Teams of two will race against each other from one end of the
lake and back. First team to complete the course wins.
Category2: Individual Race: One man boats will race from one end of the lake to the
other and back. The first Scout to complete the course wins.
Category 3: Team Float: This is a race of endurance. Your (team of two) objective is to
be the last team floating. Winners will be determined by judges that will look for
functioning boats still afloat.
Category 4: Individual Float: Individual Scouts will try to outlast each other afloat in the
lake. Last man floating will be deemed the winner.
During dinner, the judges will confer and prepare the trophies. Additional trophies will be
awarded based on criteria determined by the judges. Trophies will be awarded during
closing campfire.
The technical rules:
 Only three materials may be used to construct your boat.
o Duct Tape, Adhesive Caulking, and Cardboard
 Adhesive may only be used for binding layers of cardboard together.
 Duct Tape may only be used to cover seams and to attach sections of your
boat together. Duct tape must not extend beyond six inches from either side
of the seam.
 Due to possible pollutants to the lake, painting of your boat will not be
allowed. You may decorate in any method other than paint.
 Use of varnish, latex sprays, or waxed cardboard are not allowed.
 The only limit to your boat design is your imagination.
 All boat pieces must be recovered from the lake upon its sinking.
 All Participants must wear a personal floatation device
