Join noted historian Patricia Byrne, CJS, for the Annual Founder’s Day
Lecture (dedicated to Sister Pacelli) as she looks at the wider context
of Alvernia’s history and how Catholic sisters became involved in
post-secondary education in the U.S A.

Tres Vidas’ (Three Lives)
Based on the lives of 3 legendary Latin American women:
Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, Salvadoran activist Rufina Amaya
and Argentinean poet Alfonsina Storni, this live musical
performance is in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month.

John Updike Society Conference
A once-in-a-lifetime glimpse into the life and literature of author
John Updike. Public sessions include an Updike Family Panel
discussion, keynote address by author Ann Beattie and artist
Lincoln Perry, and a classmates panel featuring Updike’s Shillington schoolmates. Advance registration required for public

The 2010 Literary Festival at Alvernia University
This year’s festival is packed with unique events including
entertainment, award-winning authors, workshops, and
panels. All events are hosted by Alvernia at the Reading
campus and are free and open to the public. The festival
is part of the countywide Reading Reads program.
