FOOD DRIVE
The 5/6th grade Student council is having a Winter
Food Drive, until December 18th. Our goal is to get
400 food items to give to families in our community
that are in need. We will accept canned food such as,
beans, tomato sauce, pineapple and so much more.
But please no frozen foods or fresh fruit or vegetables
that could or might spoil. We encourage you to bring
something to bring smiles back on people’s faces.
MINI DANCE MARATHON
is on January 12th. Our theme is strike out cancer!
Bring in 50 cents to buy a lightning bolt that you can
decorate and display on a bulletin board in the
hallway. This money will be donated towards
families at the University of Iowa Children’s
Hospital. You can bring your money to your teacher
and they will give you a lightning bolt.
PIE IN THE FACE
Hills Elementary has started our FUND RAISING
EFFORTS to support the University of Iowa
Children’s Hospital through their annual Dance
Marathon.
There are several staff members who have agreed to
take a PIE IN THE FACE if they raise the most
money by the time the Marathon is held, January
12. There are containers in the office; the coins and
bills are filling up! After Winter Break we will have
additional fund raising activities ~ last year we
contributed over $800.00 to this very important
cause, we hope to top that! ALL contributions are
appreciated!

CONFERENCES:
Thank you for your attendance at fall conferences. Teachers connected with 95% of their students; your
efforts in making conference attendance a priority is very much appreciated! Teachers had a great deal
of information to share during this meeting, and your participation has been important in celebrating
successes and in setting social and learning goals for the next trimester. It is our hope that you gained
some valuable information about what your child is learning and how you can support that learning at
home. We value and respect your efforts in working together to help provide your child with the best
educational experience that is possible. Please continue to keep in contact with your child’s teacher
throughout the next trimester. The next formal reporting period will occur in February.
