TOWN BUDGET
Over the course of the last few months,
the staff and the Town Council have
been working hard to present a stable
budget for fiscal year 2015-2016.
The next step is for the public to have
an opportunity to review the budget and
provide input.
In addition to being available on the
Town website (www.orono.org), residents will have the opportunity to review
the budget at the Town Office.
The public is encouraged to attend the

REFERENDUM ELECTION
TUES., JUNE 9, 2015
Voting for the June 9, 2015 Election
will be held in the Council Chamber at
the Municipal Building, 59 Main Street
for Ward 1, Precincts 1. 2 & 3. Voting
hours for the election are 7:00 a.m. until
8:00 p.m.
The Registrar of Voters will be in
Open Session on the following dates
and times in the Orono Town Office for
the purpose of registering and enrolling
new voters and to correct the voting
list for the RSU #26 Budget Validation
Referendum Election: June 2, 3, 4, 5 &
8 from 8:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. On voting day, registration of voters will take
place at the voting precinct from 7:00
a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Absentee ballots
are available at the Town Clerk’s Office.
OEDC IS ON THE MOVE
Orono Economic Development Corp.,
a volunteer nonprofit corporation, is in
the midst of one of its more active periods since it was established 15 years
ago. In just the last few months, it has:
• Completed the sale of 3 Godfrey
Drive – the call center building in
the Maine Technology Park leased to
Nexxlinx – after 15 years of owning
and managing the property.
• Completed the third year of the
entrepreneur networking and pitch

• Launched a feasibility study for a Regional Food Hub. A
Food Hub would aggregate produce from small local farms
for sale into the institutional and food service markets. The
effort involves Old Town, Bangor, the Good Shepherd Food
Bank, University of Maine, and Bangor Region Chamber
of Commerce. OEDC is serving as lead.
• Began an economic branding effort around the tag line

The Orono Village Green (behind the library) on

Town’s Code Enforcement Office for the appropriate permits
and information regarding code requirements as well as to

LEAVES AND BRUSH
ACCEPTED AT LANDFILL
The Town of Orono now accepts bagged leaves and brush
at the landfill. Residents with a free permit (obtained at the
Town Office) may haul brush and bagged leaves to the landfill
during regular operating hours (Wednesdays and Staturdays,
8am-4pm). Materials must be dumped in the designated area
as directed by Public Works staff. No contaminated materials
will be accepted. Contact Public Works or the Town Office
with any questions.
OPEN FIRE BURNING PERMITS
A reminder that a fire permit is required for any outdoor
fires. This permit can be obtained at the fire station at a cost
of $10. Permits are restricted during high fire danger in the
spring and summer. If you have questions, call 866-4000,
8:30 am-4:30 pm weekdays.

Residents can re-register their boats and vehicles (Rapid
Renewal) on-line through the Orono website at www.orono.
