VOLUME XXXXXIV ISSUE 6 Dear Galilee Members and Friends, As the days grow longer and temperatures rise, we can celebrate summer will finally arrive this June! I am curious to see what this great destination of Indian Lake – you’re privileged to call home – what “the season” looks and feels like as you share your home with thousands of guests and visitors. This June, we will continue to be about preparations for Galilee’s Daycamp set to unfold on July 18-22. My thanks to all those of you who’s joined in this adventure! Especially, we need to thank Judy Neely, Nancy Mayers, Jean Frobase and Deb Berlin. Take a look inside this newsletter for all the ways you can be a part of this great outreach and Christian Education program! We’ll be welcoming and training all month long our newest staff member, Jamie, as she begins her ministry to Galilee as our new Administrative Assistant. She will be serving just ten hours each week, so please greet her and introduce yourself when you meet her. As we’re welcoming Jamie, continue to keep the Call Committee in the forefront of your prayers as they review your surveys and profiles of pastoral candidates. Early this month, we will say farewell and Godspeed to Jason Stanford, who’s served Galilee so faithfully for over fourteen years. On June 5, we will thank him after worship with a special reception. With Jason’s departure and Michael Mallory’s upcoming move to Cincinnati to begin college at University of Cincinnati, our search for a new generation of musical leadership has already begun. I am pleased and excited to share that Emma Powers has agreed to sing as a new vocalists this summer. June 2016 A great sign of health is when ministry can be shared and passed on; I pray and believe we will experience this again together – for this service is so significant to whom Galilee is and how we worship God together. In this season of summer, I am reminded again of God’s gift of Sabbath… a gift that is also an expectation. God created a day of rest, the Sabbath. A time for God’s people to rest, from the tick-tock of a clock, or the phones in our pockets. Our Indian Lake community is indeed a place to retreat and enjoy Sabbath renewal. When guests and visitors come, may we welcome them graciously, to worship, to day camp, to all that we may offer together in service to our Risen Lord. And, may we, too, find ways to model Sabbath keeping for our friends, family members, neighbors, and coworkers. In Christ, Pastor Shelley Search for New Keyboardist is Underway The search for Galilee’s next Keyboardist is well underway! Already, we’ve advertised with Ohio Northern University and Wittenberg University, and Southern Ohio Synod. Thanks to Suzy Mallory for sharing our opening with Indian Lake Local Schools. If you know of someone, please invite them to contact Galilee [email protected] for the full Job Posting. Our hopeful prayer is that a new Keyboardist will be found this summer, and that our Contemporary Service will remain a vibrant, joyful means to worship our Triune God! Questions? Please connect with Pastor Shelley. rd LESSONS FOR JUNE 6/5– 3 Sunday after Pentecost First Reading 1 Kings 17:17-24 Psalm Psalm 30 Second Reading Galatians 1:11-24 Gospel Luke 7:11-17 6/12 –4th Sunday after Pentecost First Reading 2 Samuel 11:26--12:10, 13-15 Psalm Psalm 32 Second Reading Galatians 2:15-21 Gospel Luke 7:36--8:3 6/19 –5th Sunday after Pentecost First Reading Isaiah 65:1-9 Psalm Psalm 22:19-28 Second Reading Galatians 3:23-29 Gospel Luke 8:26-39 6/26– 6th Sunday after Pentecost First Reading 1 Kings 19:15-16, 19-21 Psalm Psalm 16 Second Reading Galatians 5:1, 13-25 Gospel Luke 9:51-62 summer and dive into potential songs and hymns we can sing together at Galilee? On Sunday, June 5, we will celebrate Jason Stanford’s 14 years of ministry here at Galilee. In this time of transition, Galilee leaders and members will begin selecting the songs and hymns we sing each Sunday. Already Paula and Barney Partin, Jan Wilt and Pastor Shelley have agreed to be involved, would you like to join the fun? We will meet on an upcoming Tuesday or Sunday. If you are interested, please RSVP via email to [email protected] so that Jamie can shared with you the Bible readings you will need to read in advance. Together, we’ll share conversation and plan worship for June, July & August! Friday, July 8: Spokefolk to Visit & Offer a Concert! This summer, Galilee will be privileged to welcome a group of 30-40 high school teens and young(er) adults as they ride around central Ohio… on BICYCLE and then each evening perform a Christian folk concert. After their Friday, July 8, concert if there’s still energy and willingness, they may take a boat ride around the Lake. Yet they will also rest-up and stay overnight on Galilee’s carpet. Their Spokefolk concert will be a gift to us and Indian Lake! And their timing will be excellent just about a full week before Daycamp! Our gift to them will be serving them a pre-concert dinner and then, breakfast before they head out on the road. Thanks to Galilee’s WELCA Group for leading up this ministry of hospitality! Learn more about this unique ministry at www.spokefolk.org President’s Note Happy summer! Song & Hymn Team Do you love to worship God? Might you be willing to read the lessons ahead for each Sunday this May was a busy month at Galilee. We discovered Thrivent funding for projects, thanks to Nancy Mayers, and received funding for 2 projects with LOMO Daycamp and to construct a fire pit for community activities on our property. At the time of this writing, we also received confirmation of a grant to feed the youth in the Spokefolk group! If you are a Thrivent member, please let Nancy or myself know as we can use more members for future projects. Our hiring committee for the Office Manager position – Roger Brandeberry, Nancy Mayers and myself, met and interviewed 2 candidates for our vacancy. We hired Jamie Adkins (see article for info on Jamie) who started on 5/31. Jamie will likely spend her 10 hours per week on 2 days to be able to coincide with the time Pastor Shelley is in the office. So far, she has done a great job, she got the first bulletin done quickly, and we only missed a couple of minor things- not bad for her first try! Welcome Jamie! May also brought the start of our 9:30am start times, confusing for some, but will work to create a clearer reminder of the time change for the future. June and July will bring many opportunities for help/volunteering around the church- Preparing, shopping for LOMO, planning for Spokefolk, planning and creating the new fire pit (under the direction of Jim Frobase), Outreach volunteeringalways needed- let’s see if we can make a strong showing for the kids this summer- There is something for everyone to get involved in Galilee this summer! We are small, but we are mighty- my biggest fear for Galilee is that the small group, who actively volunteers, will-tire- so if you can, jump in and help, we always have a good time- you might enjoy it more than you thought. Our mission is to proclaim to all people God’s message of grace, faith, hope and love, making disciples through the good news of Jesus Christ-and we go where God guides us. Blessings to all, Peri The search for Galilee’s next Office Manager is over. The part-time, ten hours/week position was awarded to Jamie Adkins. Jamie comes to us from Bellefontaine where she was born and raised. She is engaged and her fiancé Arthur Knox works full time for Airstream in Jackson Center. She is the mother of three children. Her son Christian and soon to be stepson Jacob are both 17 and just ended their junior year. Her daughter Emily is 15 and just ended her freshmen year. Jamie currently works part-time at Peebles and has an associates’ degree in Psychology. She is very excited for this opportunity and is looking to forward to meeting all of you. Many thanks to Peri Bonner, Darryl Hanger and Deb Berlin for coordinating the essentials of this ministry role from February until now. Thanks to their good work, Galilee has a greater understanding of this ministry role and what the current needs are and a special thank you to Nancy Mayers and Roger Brandeberry for serving on the interview team. Treasurer’s Note After a lot of thinking and praying, I have decided to step down as the Treasurer at the end of this year. I am not yet sure where I am heading in the coming months. It has been a pleasure and a lot of fun these past 12 years. If you would like to consider taking over, let me know as now would be a great time as I can show you the ropes. All of the spreadsheets used are Excel, so if you are familiar with that program, you can step right in. If you aren’t familiar with the program it is easy to learn. I just want you to know, that I will always be available for answering questions on anything and everything to do with the job and I would never leave Galilee stranded.
