You will learn the games of Mathdoku, Sudoku, Challenge 24, Number Jumbler, Hands on Equations, and other math/logic games. Dance the Day Away Students will learn various styles of dance including ballet, jazz, lyrical, and hip hop, with an end goal of a small routine to present to an audience. Focus is on positive body image, learning coordination and flexibility, and fun! No prior dance experience needed. Boys are welcome too! Many professional athletes take dance to improve their flexibility, ankle strength, coordination, and jumping skills. Around the World in 18 Days Take a trip around the world while creating your own journal about the fun and exciting things you did while in that destination. You will also create your very own vacation plans to tour one of these exciting destinations. Session 2 (9:00-9:55 a.m.) Getting Ready for 6th Grade (Continued - You registered for this course in session 1). Bucket Drumming Students will be reading rhythms and performing music on buckets using rhythm sticks. Students will learn how to play rhythmic ostinato on the buckets. They will also practice reading music and listening to the ensemble around them as they play. Team Sports Students will learn skills used in baseball/softball, volleyball, and other team sports. This course is designed to teach the fundamentals that will help students become successful athletes. Mask Making Mask Making is a course that gives students the opportunity to create a beautiful piece of artwork using paper mache while also learning a little background about the history of mask making. Math Games Explore different games that will teach you mathematical concepts. You will receive an invoice at a later date). This class will build your reading, cooking, and writing skills. You will be reading some fun children’s literature and creating recipes based on the story. You will also create a recipe book, along with recipes using your favorite ingredients. Around the World in 18 Days Take a trip around the world while creating your own journal about the fun and exciting things you did while in that destination. Session 3 (10:00-10:55 a.m.) Fact Fluency Join us for this class to learn new tricks to master common math facts. By the end of the class you will be a math wiz. Science Explorers Join us to explore and create using science. Students will build a marble run and explore the best conditions for the perfect bottle flip. We will also create a parachute for Jack to escape down the beanstalk and build 12 bucket towers. These are just a few of the projects that we will work on. Come have some fun with science. Make Your Own Instruments Students will learn how to create and make music with homemade percussion instruments. We will make rain sticks, thunder tubes, small hand drums, and possibly more. Students will learn how to play these instruments and then compose a piece of music on them. Games A Plenty Games can be a great way to improve spatial intelligence, basic reasoning, logic skills, and problem-solving. In this course, students will be introduced to a wide variety of games. Technology Fun In this class we will use our technology skills to create several fun projects. Join this course to build your skills in the techno world. Session 4 (11:00-11:55 a.m.) Piano Camp This course is for older students who have more experience reading music and/or playing an instrument. Students will locate middle C and use the correct hand position and posture on the white keys. Advanced Paper Mache Join in on this fun class creating a paper mache masterpiece. Prerequisite: Attend Paper Mache summer school course prior summer. Games A Plenty Games can be a great way to improve spatial intelligence, basic reasoning, logic skills, and problem-solving.
