Our Redeemer’s Voice
Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer
From the Pastor’s Desk
In this month’s newsletter article, I share two important announcements with
you.
Pastor Rick Schlak
First, I want you to be aware that we are seriously considering starting a men’s
group at LCOR within the next few weeks. LCOR has never before had a men’s
group but other congregations have witnessed the importance of offering such
a gathering. Participants in men’s groups have found the time together to be
edifying and enjoyable. Unfortunately, men don’t often draw together for
support. We tend to be “Lone Rangers” who find it somewhat difficult to reach
out and talk with others.
What started LCOR off in this direction was that recently one of our new members suggested that we
start a men’s group. When this possibility was shared openly with others, it received a hearty response.
That’s why we are planning on hosting a Men’s Breakfast on Saturday, February 7. We will enjoy a
hearty breakfast from 9:00 – 9:45 and then from 9:45 – 10:30 discuss the feasibility of starting a
men’s group at LCOR. Future meeting times and activities for the men’s group to be involved in will all
be up to the participants. One thing is for certain, this is an opportunity for all adult males in the
congregation to be on the ground floor of how a new men’s group should be organized at LCOR! If you
plan on attending on Saturday, February 7, please place your name on the appropriate sign-up card on
the bulletin board.
Second, I want to remind you that the beginning of Lent is just around the corner! Ash Wednesday, the
first day of Lent which is a season of forty days, will occur on Wednesday, February 25. We will observe
this important beginning to Lent with an Ash Wednesday liturgy of Word and Sacrament that will begin
at 7:00 p.m. All are warmly invited to attend this special worship service that marks the start of this
penitential season of renewal.
Sincerely,
Pr. Richard Schlak
Warm Wishes Blanket Drive
Warm Wishes
Blanket Drive
Two local high school students are organizing a blanket (throw size) drive entitled “Warm
Wishes.” As supported by the LCOR Social Ministry Committee, we will be collecting “new”
blankets for “Warm Wishes” in order to provide a way for those in need to feel the warmth
and caring of the Foxboro community. Blanket donations will be distributed to the Foxboro
Discretionary Fund and local homeless shelters. Collection dates are through February 1st.
Please place your blanket
donations in the “Warm Wishes”
box in the narthex of the
church.
Progressive Supper
Community Life is hosting a PROGRESSIVE SUPPER on
Saturday, February 14th. It will begin at 6:30 p.m. at
the Trolle's house at 46 Spring Street in Foxboro. The first stop
will include fun and feasting on an assortment of
appetizers. At 8:00 p.m. the group will then move on to the
decadent desserts course at Pierce’s house at 386 Gilbert
Street in Mansfield.
Please sign up on the sheet on the bulletin board and write
down whether you will bring an
appetizer or dessert. Please reference what type of appetizer
or dessert you plan to bring so we do not end up with too many
of the same dishes. Call Martha Pierce if you have any
questions @ 508-339-4684.

Congregation Council Corner
December 9th Meeting Highlights
Nominating Committee – Anyone interested in serving on a one-time, year’s experience as
part of a small committee of three, please see President Lance Trolle. Duties involve a few
telephone calls or brief conversations during coffee hour on Sunday mornings to select the
next leadership of the church.
Revelations Software – Ed Morris, financial secretary, Steve Taft, treasurer, and the church
office secretary will be evaluating a new computer storage program during the next month,
whereby they could all access with proper authorization codes our giving records from their
computers.
Our Redeemer Child Care Center (ORCCC) Bylaws - The Council unanimously endorsed all
changes to the ORCCC Bylaws proposed by the ORCCC Bylaws Review Committee. Key
areas changed were: the name from LCOR-CGCDCC to ORCCC; the clarification that the
Congregation Council has operational responsibility for the center (their terms of office are
defined in our church constitution); the Board of Directors will be manned by only 2
members of the Congregation Council instead of 4; four Board members are needed for
meeting quorums; the approval to electronically communicate and vote with appropriate
record-keeping; and the clerk’s name becomes “Secretary” but the role remains
unchanged.
Finance – Envelopes for 2009 offerings are available for pick-up in the lobby of the church.
The committee asks that you double-check your box number against the individual
envelopes. Please write the amount of your offering on the envelope face each week, as
well as the envelope number on the face of the check to assist the volunteer tellers in their
duties.

Youth Group
Youth Quake is around the corner!! We will have photos of our wonderful time to share with
the congregation the second week in February.
The God Squad is sponsoring a Cutest Baby Contest. Pictures should be of
children under the age of 2 and have no names on them. Please give your
photos to Julie or Jai at church or put the baby pictures in the youth group box.
We will be choosing a certain number of photos every week in February for the
congregation to choose from. Then during the first two weeks of March,
the finalists from the weeks in February will go head to head. There
will be prizes for the winner and the runner up. More details to come in
the bulletins in the next few weeks. Any questions please contact Julie
or Jail at [email protected].
Prayer Shawl Ministry
Prayer Shawl ministry will be meeting on the 4th
Thursday of the month at 3:30 PM in the narthex.
All are welcome.
Just for Laughs
Out of the mouths of babes...
My daughter (now 19) was about 2 years old when we sat down at the dinner
table to eat. When asked if she would like to say the blessing, she was
excited to pray. With hands folded and heads bowed she began...God is
great, God is good, let us thank Him for our food..... if he hollers, let him
go...eeeenie...... then she realized what she said and looked up at all of us
who were laughing hysterically. It was so cute. Of course, we won't let her
forget that. Mark from WA
A Sunday school teacher was discussing the Ten Commandments with her
five and six year olds. After explaining the commandment to "honor thy father
and thy mother," she asked "Is there a commandment that teaches us how to
treat our brothers and sisters?"
Without missing a beat one little boy answered, "Thou shall not kill."

rather
than
the
regular mail, please
sign up on the E-Mail
signup sheet on the
bulletin board, or leave a note on the
secretary’s desk (providing your name and
e-mail address). You can also send an email to [email protected] with your
request to be added.
Each month the e-mail version of the
newsletter will be e-mailed out generally 3
days prior to when the printed copy comes
out. The e-mail version is in color.
For those of you concerned with computer
viruses, the church computer is updated
and checked weekly and all e-mail
addresses are kept confidential.
Altar Flowers
If you’d like to put flowers on
the altar, simply sign up on
the large flower chart on the
bulletin board in the hallway leading to
the education wing. Be sure to include
your name and your phone number
(should there be any questions). They
may be given in honor of someone or
some event, in memory of someone, or
simply to the glory of God! If the flowers
are being given in honor or memory of
someone, please write that on the flower
chart. If no reason is stated on the chart
then flowers will be given to the “Glory of
God.”
You must sign up a minimum of 7 days in
advance. Flower arrangements are $35
each. Please place your payment in the
offering plate and be sure you designate
the payment as “altar flowers.” After the
flowers adorn the altar area for both
services, please take the flowers home.
