Research Paper Conclusion Paragraph

My Introduction:
Miracle: an occurrence that is
unbelievable; something that has
no logical explanation. In 1940,
British Prime Minister Winston
Churchill called the events at the
port of Dunkirk in northern France
“a miracle of deliverance”
(Knowles). The Miracle of Dunkirk
was the rescue of British, French,
and Belgian troops with the help of
ordinary British citizens, which
ensured that over 300,000 Allied
troops would be saved to fight
again later in World War II.
BELLWORK
Take out your rough
draft. Read through
your introduction
paragraph. Circle,
underline, or highlight
some keywords that
appear in your intro.
Keywords-important,
unique, or essential
words.
Research Paper Conclusion
Paragraph
The conclusion should contain the
following:
• Restate the thesis (different words/mix it
up)
• Mention the topic’s impact if you didn’t
include that as a body paragraph (why it
is important in history)
• Make the conclusion unified (tie into the
attention getter)
What is a unifying conclusion
technique?
• Look back at your introduction paragraph,
especially your attention getter. Are there any
keywords or ideas from the intro that you can
use again in the conclusion?
• If you asked a question at the start, would it
sound good to answer the question at the end?
Or maybe ask the same question again?
• If you used a quote, is there another quote you
can use that builds on the same idea?
What is a unifying conclusion
technique?
• If you used fragments, use the same words again
in the conclusion.
• For a definition, revisit that definition and show
why it fit with your topic.
• If you set the scene, now go back and describe
the same scene after the war.
• If you used a statistic or fact, revisit it now at the
end to explain why it was profound.
My Miracle at Dunkirk Paper:
My Introduction
Miracle: an occurrence
that is unbelievable; something
that has no logical explanation.
In 1940, British Prime Minister
Winston Churchill called the
events at the port of Dunkirk in
northern France “a miracle of
deliverance” (Knowles). The
Miracle of Dunkirk was the
rescue of British, French, and
Belgian troops with the help of
ordinary British citizens, which
ensured that over 300,000 Allied
troops would be saved to fight
again later in World War II.
My Conclusion
The rescue of troops at
Dunkirk was truly a miracle. It is
unbelievable that they were able
to save over 300,000 men.
Having everyday citizens sail into
a war zone to save the soldiers
defies logic. This miracle at
Dunkirk made it possible for the
Allies to save enough of their
troops to eventually win World
War II.
My Mother Teresa Paper (how I used fragments):
My Introduction
My Conclusion
Compassionate. Fearless.
Strong. These are words that
describe one of the most admired
women in recent memory, Mother
Teresa. Mother Teresa is one person
who answered a call and made a
huge difference in the lives of
thousands of the poorest people in
the world. She was raised in a home
that emphasized caring, but she left
her home and family to become one
of the most inspirational figures of
our time. Mother Teresa, from a
young age, seemed destined to do
great things. Today, her story is still
an inspiration to people who care
about the poor.
Compassionate. The poor of
Calcutta were cared for and given
dignity by the work of Mother Teresa
and the nuns of her order. Fearless.
She was not afraid to live among
those who were sick and dying and
desperate for help. Strong. She
fulfilled her destiny by answering the
call to help where she was needed
most. As Mother Teresa herself said,
“To be able to love the poor and know
the poor we must be poor ourselves”
(Moritz 404). She has left a legacy of
caring that inspires people all over
the world to this day.
