Five little ducks went swimming one day Over the hills and far away Mummy duck said “quack, quack, quack, quack” And only four little ducks came back Four little ducks went swimming one day Over the hills and far away Mummy duck said “quack, quack, quack, quack” And only three little ducks came back Three little ducks went swimming one day Over the hills and far away Mummy duck said “quack, quack, quack, quack” And only two little ducks came back Two little ducks went swimming one day Over the hills and far away Mummy duck said “quack, quack, quack, quack” And only one little duck came back One little duck went swimming one day Over the hills and far away Mummy duck said “QUACK QUACK QUACK QUACK” And five little ducks came swimming back Countdown the numbers showing an open hand with 5 fingers and count down as you sing along. Move your hand up to show the ducks going OVER the hill and then away from you for FAR AWAY. When “quacking” open and close your other hand like the mother duck’s beak and don’t forget to “quack quack quack quack!” really loud on the end verse! Encourage your toddler to interact with you and keep eye contact, rhymes are fun and exciting! Actions have a big par t to play; your child will learn to love both the sound of the words and the actions. And don’t forget, you can sing songs and nursery rhymes anywhere; you don’t have to be at home. Sing rhymes with all the family – and with friends too. Young children love repetition and this is how they learn the words. Sing songs with actions and encourage your child to move along to the music - they will learn balance, co-ordination and rhythm. Or cuddle up and sing a lullaby rhyme together whenever you can - being close makes children feel calm, safe and secure. Most of all enjoy rhyming books and sing rhyming songs with your child!
