language it is and why. (Three points each- total 15 points)
2. Explain the following quotes. Tell me who said the quote, what is meant by
the quote and in what context (when did it occur- what was happening in the
novel) Answers should be thorough. Each answer should be at least four
detailed sentences in length. (Three points each- total 15 points).

3. Choose one animal or flower that is mentioned in the story. Research its
meaning in ancient Korea culture using notes in your first packet and through
the Voicethread on my website. In a paragraph, describe this animals meaning
in the story. You must be specific. Include an explanation of what you learned
from the research and connect the story to the research. You should explain
why the author used this animal as part of her story now that you understand
the cultural significance of the animal. (Ten points)
4. Select one of the following themes: courage, hard work, hope. Write about
how Linda Sue Parks emphasizes this theme in the novel. Describe how
characters demonstrate this theme through their actions. . Be sure to include
direct evidence from the novel when you write your paragraph (Fifteen points)
5. The greeting used by the well fed of Ch’ulp’o- Have you eaten well today?- is
an important clue in understanding the life of the village’s citizens. Make a list
of the five most important things in their lives. In at least a sentence each
explain why you chose each one. Now, make a list of the five most important
things in your life. Explain in several sentences how it compares to the list you
