Oh Boy! It’s the holidays again. Are you ready? We should not be
surprised. We’ve had enough reminders. Last October, I was in the
Halloween Store and just after the Monster Mash and Thriller, I heard
Andy Williams start to sing. I was scared out of my wits. It wasn’t
Halloween yet. Thanksgiving was a sneeze that I missed. At CVS,
turkey napkins were right next to the Holly napkins. What’s the rush?
At the library we’re not scared or overstuffed and we have our list.
We’re always ready and take life in stride. After all, the staff and
those who help make it work are trying to make Christmas happen
every day. We strive to be a place where you want to be, to give you
gifts throughout the year. We’re offering programs and a place to
meet friends. We try our best to deliver those things that bring visual,
auditory, cultural and mental stimulation. The library is also a place to
give back to others. There is a food and clothing drop in the library
foyer, courtesy of the Sunrise Rotary. We take donated items for your
dog or cat, there is a glasses drop offered by the Lions Club and, of
course, your donated books cared for by the Library Friends.
The holidays are a season for receiving, sharing, and giving thanks.
Remember your library where it happens everyday. Remind your
family and friends to get a card. Make us a New Year’s resolution;
come in at least once a week. Watch your children grow through us.
Enrich your life and make a better future.
We’ll give you our thanks and well wishes for every day of the year.
However, what you won’t hear over the loud speaker is Andy
Williams, or Burl Ives, or Bing Crosby, or Johnny Mathis, or Karen
Carpenter….
Happy Holidays and have a great 2017!

Lunch and a Movie
December Lunch And A Movie Series: Adults and seniors
are invited to bring their lunch (and some cookies to share)
and enjoy a month's worth of holiday movies! We provide
beverages (including some hot ones). No signups required.
Monday, Dec. 5th, 12:00 PM--A Christmas Story.
This 1983 comedy adapts the writings of humorist Jean Shepherd, who also narrates. It's the early 1940s, and
nine-year-old Ralphie Parker's Christmas wish for a Red Ryder BB gun slams up against his mother's firm
refusal: "You'll shoot your eye out!" As Ralphie thinks of ways to get his rifle, he and his family contend with
neighborhood bullies, a surly store Santa, and the leg-shaped lamp his father wins in a contest. Filled with laughs
(and quotable lines) from start to finish, this movie (overlooked on its release) has become one of the most
beloved Christmas classics of all time.
Monday, Dec. 12th, 12:00 PM--Gremlins.
An unusual Christmas movie (actually released in the summer of 1984), this wildly funny fantasy/comedy has
been described as "E.T. Meets The Thing By Way Of It's A Wonderful Life". Billy Peltzer, who lives in the idyllic
all-American town of Kingston Falls, receives an unusual present from his inventor father--an adorable little
creature called a Mogwai. But there are rules that come with the little fellow's care: bright light will hurt or kill him,
don't ever get him wet, and most importantly of all, never, NEVER feed him after midnight. When these rules are
broken, it may unleash havoc on the town...Directed by Joe Dante, this movie is chock-full of tongue-in-cheek
humor and references to other famous sci-fi and fantasy movies, but it's also one of the originators of the PG-13
rating for some violence and scariness.
Monday, Dec. 19th, 12:00 PM--It's A Wonderful Life.
This is not just A Christmas movie. This is THE Christmas movie. In this beloved classic,
George Bailey (James Stewart) has spent his life dreaming of fame and fortune, but
circumstances have kept him tied to his hometown and his family business. One Christmas
Eve, a crisis drives him to the brink of suicide--which is when his guardian angel comes in
to show George how much good he's done without realizing it and what his town would
have been like if he'd never been born.
