Instructional Week 8: February 22-26 Grade 7 ISTEP+ Focus Topic: Spiral Review Assessed Standards: 7.C.6: Use proportional relationships to solve ratio and percent problems with multiple operations, such as the following: simple interest, tax, markups, markdowns, gratuities, commissions, fees, conversions within and across measurement systems, percent increase and decrease, and percent error.+ 7.AF.2: Solve equations of the form px + q= r and p(x + q) = r fluently, where p, q, and r are specific rational numbers. Represent real-world problems using equations of these forms and solve such problems.+ 7.GM.6: Solve real-world and other mathematical problems involving volume of cylinders and threedimensional objects composed of right rectangular prisms. + 7.AF.9: Identify real-world and other mathematical situations that involve proportional relationships. Write equations and draw graphs to represent proportional relationships and recognize that these situations are described by a linear function in the form y = mx, where the unit rate, m, is the slope of the line. PS: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 + Process Standards to Emphasize with Instruction PS.1: Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them. PS.2: Reason abstractly and quantitatively. PS.3: Construct a viable argument and critique the reasoning of others. PS.4: Model with mathematics. PS.5: Use appropriate tools strategically. PS.6: Attend to precision. PS.7: Look for and make use of structure. PS.8: Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning. Data Analyze your classroom data from the weekly assessments and Acuity tests to determine where students are struggling and why. Use the resources in the ISTEP+ plan, the resource documents, and online resources to implement a new teaching plan. Assessment This week’s assessment is longer and is intended to take 45-50 minutes. The assessment is written in the format of Applied Skills Part 1. Students should use a calculator and the ISTEP+ Mathematics Reference Sheet Grade 7, which is attached on the last page of this plan. It is important to simulate the testing environment in class to help prepare the students for ISTEP Applied Skills Part 1. The four standards chosen for the assessment this week are either critical or important standards. Instructional Week 8 Assessment ISTEP+ Grade 7 Name______________________________ (7.AF.2) 1. Eli collects comic books. He already has 22 comics in his collection. His goal is to have 100 comic books. He has a part-time job working at Rocco’s Pizza Shop that allows him to purchase 6 comic books per week. Part A: Write an equation that can be used to determine the number of weeks, w, it will take Eli to reach his goal of 100 comic books. Be sure and define your variable in your equation. Define the variable___________________________________________________________ Equation___________________________________________________________________ Part B: How many weeks will it take Eli to reach his goal? Show all work Answer_______________weeks Part C: If Eli wants to reach his goal 5 weeks sooner, how many comic books must he buy each week? Explain. Show all work Answer _____________________comic books _______________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________________________ (7.GM.6) 2. Corey is making models of each letter of the alphabet. He is currently working on the letter H. Part A: What is the volume, in cubic centimeters, of the model of the letter H? Show all work Answer:_______________________cm3 Part B: Corey wants to paint his model blue. How many square centimeters will he paint? Show all work Answer:_____________________________cm2 (7.AF.9) 3. Julianna participated in a walk-a-thon to raise money for cancer research. She recorded the total distance she walked at several different points in time, but a few of the entries got smudged and can no longer be read. The times and distances that can still be read are listed in the table below. Part A: Assume Julianna walked at a constant speed. Complete the table and plot Julianna’s progress in the coordinate plane. Be sure and label the graph. Times in hours 1 2 Miles walked 6.4 8 5 Part B: What was Julianna’s walking rate in miles per hour? How long did it take Julianna to walk one mile? Round to the nearest hundredth place. Show all work Hourly Rate:_______________miles per hour Time to walk one mile:_______hours Part C: Write an equation for the distance d, in miles, that Julianna walked in n hours. Equation:_______________________ Part D: Next year Julianna is planning to walk for seven hours. If she walks at the same speed next year, how many miles will she walk? Show all work Answer:________________miles (7.C.6) 4. The Rodriguez family went to dinner at Pasta Palace. Mr. Rodriguez ordered a meal for $6.25; Mrs. R ordered a meal for $7.50: the two children ordered individual pizzas for $4.99 each. The sales tax rate was 7.25%. Part A: What is the amount of the sales tax? What is the total bill before the tip is calculated? Round to nearest cent. Show all work Sales Tax:$_________________________ Total bill before tip:$____________________ Part B: If Mr. Rodriguez left a 15% tip, how much was the tip? Round to nearest cent. Show all work Amount of tip:$__________________ Part C: How much is the Rodriguez’s total bill? Round to nearest cent. Show all work Total Bill:$_____________________ Part D: Is your answer reasonable? Explain. __________________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________________ Instructional Week 8 Assessment Key ISTEP+ Grade 7 (7.AF. 2)1. 6 points total;2 points each Part A: Define the variable – Let w = number of weeks Eli works Equation - 100=22 + 6w Part B: 13 weeks Part C: 10 comic books. Explain- If Eli works 9 weeks he will only have collected 94 comic books. Therefore he must work 10 week so that he has collected 100 comic books. (7.GM.6) 2. 4 points total;2 points each Part A:44 cm3 Part B: 104 cm2 (7.AF.9) 3. 2 points each Part A Times in hours 1 2 2.5 5 Miles walked 3.2 6.4 8 16 Part B: Hourly Rate is 3.2 miles in one hour 0.31 hour to walk one mile Part C: d = 3.2n Part D: 22.4 miles (7.C.6) 4. 8 points total. 2 points each Part A: Sales Tax: $1. 72 Total Bill before tax: $25.45 Part B: Amount of Tip: $3.82 Part C: Total Bill : $29.27 Part D: The total of $29.27 is a reasonable amount for dinner for four. The amount of tax is only $1.72 and tip of $3.82 is much less than the total of the four meals of $23.73. Answers may vary. All constructed response problems will be graded using the ISTEP+ Content Rubric.
