1/4˝ seam allowances are used.
1. Using the quilt image as a guide, lay out the diamonds
in desired order. The diamonds on the edges will be
trimmed off before the borders are attached.
2. Piece a sashing strip to the lower left of
each diamond, except the diamonds in
the lowest row and the left side of top.
3. Join the blocks on the diagonal.
4. Make the sashing strips by starting with the sashing
corners and alternating corners and strips. You will need
(2) sets of 3 corners/2 strips, (2) sets of 5 corners/4
strips, and (2) sets of 7 corners/6 strips.
60 degree ruler and/or templates
Cutting
Cut fabrics from selvage to selvage (WOF).
Fabrics A–F (Diamond Shapes), cut:
• (2) strips, 7 1/2˝ x WOF from each fabric; cut into
(8) 7 1/2˝ x 8 5/8˝ diamonds each, using the template
or a 60 degree ruler. Note: You will have extra
diamonds
Fabric G (Sashing Strips), cut:
• (12) 1 3/8˝ x WOF strips; cut into (48) 1 3/8˝ x 8 5/8˝
strips, using the template or a 60 degree ruler*
Fabric H (Sashing Corners), cut:
• (2) 1 3/8˝ x WOF strips; cut into (32) 1 3/8˝ x 1 5/8˝
strips, using the template or a 60 degree ruler
Fabric I (Inner Border), cut:
• (5) 2˝ x WOF strips. Piece the strips and cut
(2) 2˝ x 47 3/4˝ strips and (2) 2˝ x 39 1/2˝ strips.
Fabric J (Outer Border), cut:
• (6) 3 1/2˝ x WOF strips. Piece the strips and cut
(2) 3 1/2˝ x 50 3/4˝ strips and (2) 3 1/2˝ x 45 1/2˝ strips.
Fabric H (Binding), cut:
• (6) 2 1/2˝ strips
5. Attach the sashing strip sets to the appropriate
diamond sets.
6. Trim the diamond shapes that extend beyond
the sashing strips. The quilt top should measure
36 1/2˝ x 47 3/4˝.
Inner Border
7. Sew 47 3/4˝-long Fabric I strips to opposite sides of
the quilt top. Sew 39 1/2˝-long Fabric I strips to the top
and bottom of the quilt top.
Outer Border
8. Sew 50 3/4˝-long Fabric J strips to opposite sides of
the quilt top. Sew 45 1/2˝-long Fabric J strips to the top
and bottom of the quilt top.
Finishing the Quilt
9. Layer the quilt top with batting and backing; baste.
Quilt as desired. Using the 2 1/2˝-wide fabric
H strips, bind the edges to finish.

Refer to this illustration of the Finished Block as a guide.
9. Sew the following strips together from left to right to
measure 5˝ x 42˝: Fabric F 2 1/2˝, Fabric E 1˝, Fabric F 2
1/2˝. Repeat two more times to make a total of three
strips. Sub-cut into (14) 5˝ x 8˝ rectangles as illustrated
below – Label “Set B” and set aside.
10. In the same manner as step 9, sew (1) Fabric B
1. Sew (1) Fabric B 8 1/2˝ x 1 1/2˝
rectangle to the top of (1) Fabric A
7 1/2˝ square with a partial seam
(sew only 1/2 way down the edge)
as shown on the right.
PARTIAL SEAM
2. Sew (1) Fabric G 1 1/2˝ x 8 1/2˝ rectangle to the left side.
3. Sew (1) Fabric B 1 1/2˝ x 8 1/2˝ rectangle to the bottom.
4. Sew (1) Fabric G 1 1/2˝ x 8 1/2˝ rectangle to the right side.
5. Finish the partial seam at the top to measure
9 1/2˝ square, unfinished.
6. Repeat from Instruction No. 1 (6) more times to make
a total of (7) squares – set aside for use later.
7. Sew the following strips together from left to right as
to measure 9 1/2˝ x 42˝: Fabric D 2 1/2˝, Fabric C 1 1/2˝,
Fabric D 2 1/2˝, Fabric C 1 1/2˝, Fabric D 2 1/2˝, Fabric G
1 1/2˝. Sub-cut into (14) 9 1/2˝ x 2 1/2˝ rectangles as
illustrated below – Label “Set A”.
5˝ x 1 1/2˝ rectangle to the bottom of (1) Fabric A 5˝ square
then sew (1) of Set B to the left to measure 5˝ x 13 1/2˝.
Make (14) – Label “Set C”.
11. Sew (1) Set C to the left side of the CENTER. Rotate
(1) of Set C and sew to the right side to finish the block at
18 1/2˝ x 13 1/2˝, unfinished. Make (7) blocks as illustrated
in the Finished Block.
12. Sew (3) blocks together at the 13 1/2˝ edge to
measure 54 1/2˝ x 13 1/2˝, unfinished, to make the Table
Runner. The remaining (4) blocks are the Placemats.

13. Layer the backing, batting, and Table Runner and
Placemats respectively and quilt as desired.
14. Using Fabric E 2 1/2˝ strip sew on the binding to finish
the Table Runner and Placemats. The balance of the strip
will be used for the Mug Rugs.
Mug Rug
Block Assembly and Finishing
Refer to the illustration of the Mug Rug as a guide.
15. Sew (1) Fabric B 4 1/2˝ x 1 1/2˝ rectangle to the top
and bottom of (1) Fabric A 4 1/2˝ square to measure 4 1/2˝
x 6 1/2˝. Make (4).
8. Sew (1) of Set A to the bottom of the 9 1/2˝ square
completed in step 5 with Fabric G towards the right. Then
sew (1) of Set A to the top with Fabric G towards the left
as illustrated in the Finished Block. Make (7) CENTERS at
9 1/2˝ x 13 1/2˝ , unfinished, and set aside for use later.
16. Sew (1) Fabric C 1 1/2˝ x 6 1/2˝ rectangle to the left
and right sides to measure 6 1/2˝ square. Make (4).
17. Sew (1) Fabric F 2 1/2˝ x 6 1/2˝ rectangle to the right
side to finish the Mug Rug top at 8 1/2˝ x 6 1/2˝ . Make (4).
18. Layer the backing, batting, and Mug Rug and
quilt as desired.
19. Using the remainder of Fabric E 2 1/2˝-wide binding
strip, sew on the binding to finish the FOUR Mug Rugs.
