Welcome to our third grade performance! You are in for a real treat.
2. ​
Ian:
**(looking at a globe) You know the world looks pretty small to me!
Wouldn’t it be great to meet every person who lives here?
3. ​
Valery:
(working a calculator) Well, with six billion people in this world…now,
let me see..if you lived for 100 years more…365 days in a
year…there, you’d have to shake hands with 164,383 people per day.
You better get started!

Ian:
**(starting to shake hands of class members on stage continues to
shake hands through the performance working his way through the
performers to the audience)

:
Let’s take a journey across the globe and see where we can go.
Come travel with us to many lands as we present our show.

Root:
Did you know that the planet earth has 7 continents and 4 oceans?
6. ​
Tanner​
: Australia is the only country that is also a continent and is the
smallest continent as well.

Katie:
About 4,000 miles to the northeast of Australia in the Pacific Ocean is
a small group of Islands called Samoa.
8. ​
Caroline: Agriculture is a main source of income for Samoa. Their biggest
crops are copra, bananas, and cocoa beans.

What is copra?

Tommy:​
It’s dried coconut meat.

Hope:
The Samoan people have a tradition of beautiful singing and dancing.

population?

Did you know they have a special holiday in Korea called Children’s
Day?

On this day the people celebrate children by giving them gifts and
doing fun kid friendly activities together.

I want to visit there!

Vince:
This song about a mountain pass called Arirang. It is often
considered Korea’s second national anthem.

Now we are off to the Middle Eastern part of Asia.

Charley: Did you know that over 2,000 years ago the Romans drove the
Hebrew people from Ancient Israel?

And it was only in 1948 that this narrow strip of land in the Middle
East was established as a refuge for Jewish people.

Valery:
The Israeli people have a strong tradition of song and dance that
brings the communities together.

River:
This song is based entirely on one nonsense word.

Did you know that Europe has had the most influence on world
history?

Tanner: Europe’s political ideas, scientific discoveries, arts and philosophies,
and religious beliefs have spread to other parts of the world.

I say we start with Wales, a country on the western side of Great
Britain.

Yes, that is because Wales is known for its folk singers, harpists and
male choirs.

: I love the exciting music of Africa. It’s based on the rhythms of
drums.

(looking at the globe) well now we have quite a long journey across
the Atlantic ocean to Central America.

Central America forms a land bridge between North and South
America.

The country of Guatemala is located just south of Mexico.

Root:
This area was home to the Mayan people before it became a Spanish
colony.
6. ​
Tanner: Now an independent country, Spanish is the national language of
Guatemala, but there are still 21 Mayan languages that are spoken in
only 42,000 square miles.

Katie:
Its southern border is along the coast of the Pacific Ocean. Let’s
head to the coast for some delicious seafood!

**(holding sore hand) Well, I guess this world is a lot bigger than I
imagined. My hand is killing me and I only hit this small part of it!
(waves arm across indicating audience and performers on stage)

Who knows, you could be practicing to be a world leader right now!

Root:
Well eventually all of us are going to grow up and be in charge of this
world of ours, in one way or another.

Tanner: ** (looking around at the other students) that’s a kind of frightening,
but inspirational thought!

Katie:
We may just look like kids now, but keep an eye on us we’re the
future of tomorrow!
