Sacred Tour of Mexico City Sunday evening June 26th - Saturday evening July 2nd Seven-day tour in and around Mexico City. Early Bird: $1199 Includes 7 nights lodging double occupancy, all in-country transportation, entrance fees, and guided tours. Does not include meals, airfare, or transportation from airport. Optional day tours $99 each: Sunday June 26th to Puebla Sunday July 3rd to Mexican market and dinner Itinerary: (subject to change) Saturday June 25: For those going on the tour to Puebla, arrive sometime today. Informal gathering and dinner. Sunday June 26: For those on the tour to Puebla, we will meet and take a 2 ½ hour bus ride to the beautiful colonial city of Puebla. We will tour the Convent of Santa Rosa (where mole poblano was invented), lunch in the Zocalo, and then shopping for talavera pottery at a factory outlet. Those on the regular tour arrive today. In the evening we will all gather and make introductions over drinks and snacks. Monday June 27: After an early breakfast, we will hop on the bus for a short ride to the Basilica de Guadalupe. Here we will see the image of La Virgen and, participate in a candle-lighting ritual, and then climb the stairs to the chapel at the top of the Hill of Tepeyac, original worship site of Tonantzin. We will return to the bus for a 1 ½ hour ride to the beautiful city of Tepotzlan (pack a snack to eat on the bus). We will tour a pulqueria and sample different types of pulque (a beverage made from fermented maguey sap) and hold a ritual for Mayahuel, the Goddess of Maguey. Tuesday June 28: After a late breakfast, we will board the bus for an hour ride to Teotihuacan. There we will tour the site (be sure and wear sturdy and comfortable walking shoes and bring a snack) and the museum. We will honor La Gran Diosa de Teotihuacan. We will return to the hotel (you will have time for a late lunch) then board the bus to a retreat center for a temazcal (Nahua traditional sweat) ritual and dinner. Wednesday June 29: After breakfast, we will board the bus for a short ride to the Museum of Anthropology. We will see statues of Coatlicue, Cihuateteo and images of Itzpapalotl. We board the bus for a short drive to Café Tacuba for lunch. There we will learn about Sor Juana de la Cruz. We will re-board the bus and head to the Zocalo to tour the Templo Mayor. Here we will see the statues of Coyolxauhqui and Tlatecuhtli. Either tour more of the Zocalo or return to hotel. Thursday June 30: After an early breakfast, we board the bus for a two-hour drive to Tlaxcala and Xochitecatl. Here we will have ritual honoring Xochiquetzal and a limpia. We will return to the hotel in time for dinner. Friday July 1: After an early breakfast, we board the bus for a 2 ½ hour drive to Malinalco. Here we will have a ritual honoring Malinalxochitl. We will return to the hotel in time for dinner. Saturday July 2: After a late breakfast, we will board the bus for a short ride to San Angel, Plaza de San Jacinto for the art and craft fair, Sabado Bazar. After perusing the many stalls of beautiful jewelry, pottery, paintings and art, we will meet for lunch in the Plaza de San Jacinto at the Fonda San Angel. After lunch, we board the bus for the short drive to Casa de Frida Kahlo. We will return to the hotel for dinner. Sunday July 3: Those not taking the optional tour head to the airport to return to the US. For those on the optional tour, we will start after a late breakfast and take the metro (subway) to Mercado Jamaica, often called the “flower market.” We will tour the stalls of flowers, foods, spices, and goods, maybe stopping for a bite to eat. Then we will return to the Metro for Calle Madero, a large pedestrian area. We will spend the afternoon shopping and strolling the exclusive shops (and a fantastic candy store!). After returning to the hotel, we will walk to dinner at Los Limosneros, an upscale restaurant. Monday July 4: Return to US
