SPECIAL RULES
General Rules and Regulations, Junior Livestock Show Rules and Regulations, and Auction of
Junior Livestock Champions Rules and Regulations found in the Livestock Premium List apply
to this division as well as the following special rules. All Participants must read and abide by
these rules.
2. Entries must be made on official 2014 National Western Stock Show entry forms. THE OWNERSHIP DEADLINE FOR MARKET STEERS IS SEPTEMBER 20, 2014.
3. ANIMALS ENTERED IN THIS DIVISION MUST BE A STEER. A vet certificate must
be presented at time of processing.
4. Participant will be permitted to enter (10) and show up to four (4) Market Steers.
5. Each entry must contain the signature of the County Agent or FFA Advisor. Absolutely
NO late entries. The Primary Care Form must accompany your entry.
6. Market steers entered in the 2015 Stock Show must have a DNA card, the nomination form,
ten ($10.00) dollars per animal nomination fee and a copy of a legal Bill of Sale or a certified copy of a Brand Inspection Certificate (where applicable) postmarked and in the National
Western Stock Show Livestock Office on or before September 20, 2014. Documents must be
in the sole name of the participant. Do not send original Brand Inspection Certificate or
legal Bill of Sale with nomination! ORIGINAL BRAND INSPECTION CERTIFICATE
OR ORIGINAL LEGAL BILL OF SALE MUST ACCOMPANY THE STEER AND BE
PRESENTED AT TIME OF PROCESSING. FAILURE TO COMPLY WILL RESULT
IN DISQUALIFICATION. Entry deadline is November 1, 2014.
7. A negative BVD-PI test is required on all steers prior to entering the National Western
Stock Show grounds.
8. Official weight: A weight card obtained from the Steer superintendents office, must be filled
out by all Junior Market Steer exhibitors and turned in at processing with a called/declared
weight. This will become the official weight. All junior market steers will be divided into
classes according to this weight. Minimum weight for Market Steer is one thousand (1,000)
pounds.
9. All junior market steers will be weighed prior to entering the show ring. Any junior market
steers outside of the 5% tolerance from the called weight will be disqualified.
10. A Blow ‘n Go Showmanship Contest will be held on Wednesday evening, January 21
prior to the Market Steer Show. There will be a judge for showmanship and a different
judge for the market show. This will be included as part of the Premier Exhibitor Award
results.
11. Bedding. Shavings and bedding must be purchased from the National Western Feed Concession. First bedding will not be provided for any animals.

12. The natural color of a steer cannot be altered using any artificial coloring. However, products that match the animal’s natural color may be used in the fitting process from the knees and hocks down and on the switch only. For example, black products may be used on a black-legged animal, red on a red animal and white on a white-legged animal. But under no circumstances can color be used to cover an animal's natural leg color.
13. No substitutions will be allowed!
14. Each Junior Market steer exhibitor will be allowed to bring one (1) blocking chute onto the Stock Show grounds. Blocking chute permits can be purchased at time of entry. All blocking chutes will be placed in one general area of the barn.
15. Refer to Junior Livestock Show Rules and Regulations; rule eighteen (18) for Carcass Contest eligibility and rule nineteen (19) for Premier Exhibitor information.
16. The Auction of Junior Livestock Champions will be held Friday, January 23, 2015.

Special Breed classes will be provided for Angus, Charolais, Chianina, Hereford, Maine-
Anjou, Shorthorn and Simmental.. Purebred classes will be broken by weight with seven (7) head to make a breed class. If there are fewer than seven (7) head in a breed then they will be put into a AOPB class. The decision on whether the breed champion and/or
reserve breed champion is selected to the Auction of Junior Livestock Champions is
strictly at the discretion of the National Western Mangement.
18. All Breed steers (Purebred only) will be required to have registration papers from their respective breed associations. They will be required at the time of processing and must be in the exhibitors name by October 1st.
19. Classes are tentatively scheduled for the following divisions. Classes will be broken by
weight within the division.

CHAMPION JUNIOR MARKET STEER SPECIALS
National Western Stock Show will present a Charles E. Kirk Memorial Buckle to the winner of the
Grand Champion Market Steer.
The Denver Agricultural and Livestock Club will present a plaque to the winner of the Grand Champion Market Steer in commemoration of John T. Caine III. This plaque will be inscribed with the winner’s name and will remain on public display throughout the year at the National Western Stock Show.

SPECIAL RULES

these rules.
1. Entries must be made on official 2015 National Western Stock Show entry forms. All
entries must be owned by the Participant as of November 1, 2014. A Bill of Sale is
required for proof of ownership. Home raised lambs will require a statement
of such signed by parent or legal guardian.
2. Hair DNA is required.
3. Animals entered in this division may be either wethers or ewes.
4. Participant will be permitted to enter up to ten (10) and bring and show no more than four
(4) Market Lambs. You must pay for all ten (10).
5. Each entry must contain the signature of the County Agent or FFA Advisor. Absolutely NO
late entries. The Primary Care Form must accompany your entry.
6. All Market Lambs must be uniformly slick shorn and with no pattern with no belly or flank
wool. All shearing of Lambs must be done only in a designated area (show ring) prior
processing. No power clippers can be used after this time, only hand shears. No fans will
be allowed to be brought to the National Western Stock Show grounds except by Junior
Market Beef exhibitors.
7. Wethers having one (1) or both testicles contained in the body cavity are ineligible to show
and will be condemned at slaughter.
8. Official Weight: The weight recorded at time of processing will become the official
weight. A weight card obtained from the superintendents office, must be filled out by all
Junior Market exhibitors and turned in at processing with a called/declared weight. This
will become the official weight. All junior market lambs will be divided into classes according to this weight. No reweighs will be allowed once the animal has stepped off the
scale. Minimum weight for Market Lambs is one hundred (105) pounds. No maximum
weight, but must be within a 5% weight back. A 5% weigh back will be allowed and the
top 4-5 in each class are eligible for a weight back.
9. Water: A container, with water, must be present in each pen at all times.
10. Bedding. Shavings and bedding must be purchased through the National Western Feed
Concession. First bedding will not be provided for any animals. Carpet will be allowed
but must be water permeable. Shavings will be allowed under carpet only.
11. A minimum of fifteen (15) classified Market Lambs, or at the discretion of management,
must be processed from any one breed to be eligible for a separate breed classification. If
a minimum is not obtained, lambs will be shown with the crossbreds and other breeds.
Junior Market Lambs will be classified. Any reclassification is at the discretion of the classifier. Animals with obvious disregard for breed characteristics will be reclassified.
12. Market Lambs and breeding sheep shall show no evidence of surgical docking, prolapses, purse strings, sutures, etc. If any of these are evident in any sheep, that animal
will be disqualified from the show.
