Joel Pett, winner of the 2000 Pulitzer Prize for editorial cartooning, has been at the
Lexington Herald-Leader since 1984 and joined USA Today as a weekly contributor
in 2002. He produces a regular cartoon feature for the Sunday Los Angeles Times and
creates a monthly cartoon for the educational journal, Phi Delta Kappan.
Pett received the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award for cartoons highlighting the
plight of the disadvantaged, and the Global Media Award for cartoons on population
issues. He has conducted three overseas seminars on editorial cartooning as a guest
speaker of the U.S. State Department. Having observed life in over twenty-five countries,
from his boyhood home in Nigeria, down the Amazon, to Red Square, Tiananmen
square, and beyond, Pett sums up his philosophy simply: “Hello, God?…We could
use some help down here…” In addition to cartooning, Pett enjoys public speaking,
entertaining audiences with his no-holds-barred humor.

Jeff Danziger is an independent political cartoonist who targets a wide variety of
subjects, from international folly to Hollywood hubris. His two recent books, “Blood,
Debt and Fears” and “Wreckage Begins with W,” showcase his usual pull-no-punches
humor directed at the George W. Bush presidency. Danziger’s dark drawings reveal
his singular wit and uncanny skill.
Danziger has worked at the New York Daily News and the Christian Science Monitor,
where he was twice a Pulitzer Prize finalist. He won the 2006 Herblock Prize for
Political Cartooning and was awarded the Population Institute’s Press Award for
Cartoons on the subject of global population growth. In 1970, Danziger was awarded
the Bronze Star and Air Medal for his service as an Army intelligence officer and
linguist in Vietnam. His 1991 novel about the war, “Rising Like the Tucson,” was
published by Doubleday.
