environment under the leaves but over the
ground.
 FOREST FLOOR: Teeming with animal
life, especially insects. The largest animals
in the rainforest generally live here.

A kinkajou has a long tail, is furry, and
a mammal. They live in the rainforests
of Mexico, Central America, and northern South America. They are most active at night. Kinkajous communicate by
smell. They are closely related to raccoons. This animal eats honey, fruit,
flower nectar, and insects.
Sloths live in South and Central
America. They hang upside
down, sleeping on trees for 15-18
hours. These animals eat leaves,
especially from ceceropia trees.
They have many predators including jaguars, harpy eagles, and
people. They live for 10-20 years
in the wild. Sloths belong to
many groups. These groups are
Animalia, chordate, vertebrate,
Mammalia, Xenarthra, Pilosa, and
An okapi is like a giraffe with zebralike legs. It lives in Central Africa
near the Congo River Basin. They
are about 5 feet tall. They can
weigh anywhere from 450-500
pounds. They can lick their eyes.
They are herbivores or plant eaters.
They feed on leaves, shoots, and
berries. They are classified in the
Mammalia group.
