Sunday News
Morning Edition
VIBRANT
INCLUSIVE PROGRESSIVE
The first time I found myself at
MCC Toronto was more than a
decade ago when I visited for a
music recital with friends who are
congregants. Even then, I was well
aware of MCC Toronto's
reputation. This was the church that
pioneered same-sex marriage in
Canada and around the world. Since
then, I have also made friends with
younger folks who graduated from
the Triangle Program. I have met
people applying for refugee status
in Canada who were sponsored by
our church. I was deeply moved and
humbled by all this.
I never thought of myself as much
of a "joiner". But frankly, the idea
of a Sunday listening to music,
sharing a positive message, and
socializing with friends is quite
appealing to me. I found myself
simply showing up more often,
until it became a weekly ritual.
I like both the morning and the
evening services, but over the past
few months I've gravitated to the
evenings, which I find less crowded
and more intimate. The afterservice gatherings with other
congregants have also made for
excellent company and deeply
meaningful conversations.
I am now employed by MCC
Toronto as the IT Team Leader.
After twenty years in the IT
industry, I was close to burning out
in the for-profit world of dot-com
capitalism. Too many times I felt
like my job was just helping another
executive buy another sports car.
Since I began working here, I have
never felt so welcomed,
appreciated, and celebrated in my
entire career! And I know that what
I do actually helps us make this
world a better one.

Pride and Joy
The mission of Pride and
Joy is to be a joyful healing
presence for others through
music. They believe that
music is a universally
understood language
connecting people together,
regardless of any faith or
cultural differences. Music is
a gift from God, a gift that
they feel compelled to share
with others, and so this
smaller chamber choir goes
out into the community to
sing at community and
corporate events, weddings,
and funerals. Pride and Joy
has included over 25
members in its history, and
the current members have
over 450 years’ singing
experience! Pride and Joy is
thrilled to be featured on the
choir’s most recent
recording, These Old Walls,
and recently performed their
first cabaret, right here at
MCCT in 2014. They are
honoured to have received
the MCCT Vision Alive
Award in 2015. They can be

First Reading
Second Reading
1 Corinthians 1: 10-12
Now I appeal to you, brothers and
sisters, by the name of our Lord
Jesus Christ, that all of you be in
agreement and that there be no
divisions among you, but that you
be united in the same mind and
the same purpose. For it has been
reported to me by Chloe’s people
that there are quarrels among you,
my brothers and sisters. What I
mean is that each of you says, “I
belong to Paul,” or “I belong to
Apollos,” or “I belong to Cephas,”
or “I belong to Christ.”
Mark 9: 38-40

John said to Jesus, “Teacher, we
saw someone casting out demons
in your name, and we tried to
stop him, because he was not
following us.” But Jesus said, “Do
not stop him; for no one who
does a deed of power in my
name will be able soon afterward
to speak evil of me. Whoever is
not against us is for us.
