Skill Corner:
Blocking A Ball Overhead: Adopt the ready position. Extend
the hurley above the head, sliding the non-dominant hand
down the handle of the hurley to meet the dominant hand
at the top of the handle. Both thumbs should be facing
towards the bas of the hurley. The toe of the hurley should
be pointed away from the body. Keep eyes on ball at all
times. Block the ball with the flat of the bas. Relax the grip
to deaden the ball on impact, allowing the ball to fall at
the feet or to be caught in the non-dominant hand.

Following on from the fine recent victory of the Under 12

Welcome to the Turloughmore H.C. Newsletter. The
club hurling scene is about to get back up and running in
earnest. Let us know what we should include!
Did You Know:
Following on from the controversial ending to the recent
Munster U-21 hurling final which was decided by the
conversation of a late Tipperary 65 after the Clare
goalkeeper stepped outside the small square to take the
puck-out, it was ironic to see that Seamus Gardiner, the
national referees spokesman, had called for the penalty
to be changed (i.e. a penalty other than a 65) prior to
the Munster U-21 final. Gardiner stated “I had written
in the Munster senior final match programme that it’s a
rule that is unpopular and too severe and I was making
the argument to change the rule to a throw in on the 20
metre line. Given the accuracy of modern day free
takers, the award of a 65 is as good as awarding a
point”.
What the Rule Book Says: Technical Foul:
Rule 4.15: Infraction - To take the puck-out from outside
the small rectangle.
Penalty: 65m free opposite where the foul occurred.
