 Respect the rights of others, including the rights of teachers to teach and students to
learn.

furniture.
 Complete all assigned home tasks to the mutual satisfaction of the students

A pupil’s presence in the College signifies his/her acceptance of these responsibilities and
failure to abide by these can result in disciplinary action. Serious offences could result in
automatic suspension/expulsion e.g. bullying, drugs/alcohol.
UNIFORM
GUIDING PRINCIPLES
The development of gifts and talents, whether physical, intellectual, spiritual, cultural or
social is an important task of a school. A uniform is a means of enabling all students to stand
out and be different not in the way they look, but by how they use their gifts and talents.
The required College uniform is outlined in the College prospectus but the following need
noting:
 All items of uniform (and other belongings) should be clearly and permanently marked
with the owner’s name.
 Jewellery – inappropriate jewellery will be confiscated and no responsibility will be taken
Rings – no rings of any variety are to be worn to school. Bracelets – ‘medical’ variety
only
No jewellery is to be worn around the neck unless it is a Christian symbol or a medical
medallion; either of which must be worn on a fine chain and tucked inside shirt or blouse
so as not to be visible at any time. No leather, string etc.
Earrings – either small sleepers or studs in either silver or gold. One earring only in each
ear lobe. Decorative earrings are not acceptable.
Students must not wear jewellery in activities where it may be a risk to themselves or
others.
 Any tattoos/body piercings apart from earrings must not be visible at any time in either
day uniform, sports uniform or casual clothes worn on ‘free dress’ days, camps and
retreats.
 No makeup or coloured nail polish is to be worn. Remover is available in the office.
 Hair is to be kept clean, neat and tidy, away from the face and tied back in a ponytail or
similar when hair touches the collar. Boys are to be clean-shaven in the facial area.
Hairstyles should be appropriate to a person who wears a uniform and of a natural colour.
Extreme hairstyles and colours are to be avoided. More specific guidelines are available
on request.
 Casual clothes worn on ‘free dress’ days, camps and retreats must be appropriate to the
activities while being modest and sunsafe. Shirts/tops for girls and boys must have a
sleeve and cover the midriff - no ‘strappy’ tops that expose shoulders to the sun.
 Shoes on free dress days, camps and retreats should be enclosed, not sandals or thongs.
 Black lace-up shoes, with all-leather uppers able to be polished and kept clean. No suede.
 Plain navy socks with boy’s long trousers, white or navy socks with girl’s slacks.
 Boys’ socks should always be up and of a sufficient length to reach to the top of the calf
muscle.
 Regulation college socks, not pantyhose are to be worn with girls’ shorts.
 Students should not wear only part of the uniform if in public before, during or after
school. Either wear it completely and tidily or change before leaving school premises.
 Hats. Whilst outside, students must wear the approved College hat which protects the
face, neck and ears and are advised to apply a SPF 15+ broad spectrum suncream for skin
protection. If students do not have hats, then they will be directed by staff to a designated
classroom. If students are on school grounds and not in class they must have hats on. The
College has a Sun Smart Policy which is available on request.
STUDY / HOMEWORK GUIDELINES
Study and homework incorporate the following aspects:
 Specific work set by teachers for students to complete at home before the next
lesson for that subject.
 Assignments or projects which contribute directly to the achievement result. At
least some of the work for these is to be completed at home over a period of
weeks.
 Revision of work covered in class. This should occur consistently throughout the
term, with more emphasis near exam times.
There is a clear expectation that students will plan their time to complete set tasks, complete
all assignments and prepare for exams by revising the class work. Failure to do this lessens
the chance of academic success and can lead to disciplinary action.
At the beginning of each semester, assessment planners are given to the students. These detail
the assignments and exams in each subject.
A guide to the time required (on average) by students for study/homework is:
 Year 8 – 6 to 8 hrs per week
 Year 9 – 8 to 10 hrs per week
 Year 10 – 10 to 12 hrs per week
 Year 11/12 – 12 to16 hrs per week
TIME MANAGEMENT
Being a successful student requires good time management skills. Many students are very
busy with part-time work, responsibilities within the family and a range of sporting and
cultural commitments, with some days and evenings being busier than others.
Students are first and foremost students and it is important that they plan their time across the
week to achieve the correct balance between study/homework and other commitments. A
balanced plan should also include adequate rest as this is essential to achieving full potential.
Students can achieve this balance by
 Becoming aware of the study pattern that best suits them, e.g. morning or evening; long
sessions which focus on one subject area or short periods spent on each subject each night;
which days have the best opportunities for doing assignments and revision.
 Avoiding time-wasting and non-productive activities, e.g. excessive time spent on
television, electronic games, mobile phones or computer.
 Seeking advice from experts, including the College Counsellor or Learning Support
teachers, on devising a balanced study plan that takes into account individual
circumstances.
