GOLDEN GATE ANALYSIS
BY CHUCK DYBDAL
BEST BET: RACE 3, FAST AND FOXY
FIRST RACE
ANNISQUAM guns for a hat trick today as she continues to move up the ladder after being favored in a pair of
wire-to-wire wins. She’s sharp with seven wins in her past 10 starts, all coming as front-running wins. She may
be challenged a bit early by a comebacker, but her outside draw could allow her to dictate the pace. Stalker RED
ROSE LADY is rooting for the top pick to face a pace challenge. She’s run all right at this level, and she’s dropping
today after being overmatched last time. With her style, she’ll be a key contender in the lane. OUR CLEMENTINE
is making her third start off a layoff and showed improvement in start No. 2. She’s willing to sit a bit early and will
make her presence felt in the lane as she drops a notch here.
SECOND RACE
ARVIAT BAY takes that final drop down the ladder to the bargain-basement level today. Her best wins this easily,
but when you’re 0-for-14, consistency is not a hallmark. She is a consistent check earner and has the speed to sit
in good position throughout. The beaten favorite last time can make amends today. SHEZ A GRILLER has hit the
board in both tries at this level and has hit the board in her past two starts. She’s coming off her best try yet and was
competitive much of the way when she met the top pick last year. CAZORLA is moving to a new barn after being the
beaten favorite at this level last time. She has a pair of easy maintenance drills since. Barn does well first start off
the claim, and she has been competitive against both of the top two picks in the past.
THIRD RACE
FAST AND FOXY has to be considered the top female sprinter currently racing in Northern California. She’s won
three straight against her own sex, including the Bear Fan Stakes last December. She even tried males after that
and ran third in what was a prep for Monday’s Lost in the Fog. TURKISH TABBY is a solid sprinter who is an upand-comer. She carried a two-race win streak into her last race but proved no match for the top pick. She’s had a
pair of bullet works since then, a sizzling half-mile and a strong six-furlong move. ESTELLARA, an Emerald Downs
stakes winner, split the top picks last time in her first start in six months and has a solid half-mile work since then.
She’s a quality stalker type.
FOURTH RACE
BUTTIE has always been a pretty consistent runner since making her debut last summer. She’s off to a great start in
2017 with her two best races to date. She scored a nice maiden win and then dropped a notch for her debut against
winners at this level. She had some trouble but still finished second and has shifted to a new barn. She has a nice
work since then. She’s been part of the exacta in all three starts on the main track here. SHE’S MY COOKIE is running for her lowest tag in 10 months. She dropping out of starter allowance company where she’s picked up checks
in both starts following a seven-week freshener. The drops should help, and she rallied for second at this distance
in her comeback try on the turf. TRICKED AGAIN has hit the board in three straight starts at this level after running
fourth in her debut for this tag. She doesn’t have much speed, but she’s able to finish well. She trailed the top pick
last time as she, too, encountered a bit of trouble.
FIFTH RACE
The connections of RON’S ANSWER probably wish this race were being run on paper where their speedy filly looks
unbeatable. She had a decent debut and then showed improvement as the odds-on favorite in start No. 2 at this
level. She set the pace but tired and settled for second, but the next runner wasn’t close to her. She has a pair of
maintenance drills since and is cutting back slightly in distance here. KOLOCHA again draws the rail for her second
start. She got away a bit slowly last time as she chased the top pick. She rallied wide but flattened out late. She can
certainly improve off that effort. Ditto SAY YOUR GRACE. She was far back early in her debut but did pass tired
horses late. Note that her sire is 0-for-19 with first-timers so improvement can be expected.
SIXTH RACE
GOOD STATS ran all right in her return to action last month after a 10-week layoff. She was favored against better
and ran all right but obviously needed the race. She gets a significant drop to the bottom level here and looms the
one to beat despite her rail draw if she shows any improvement. She has plenty of speed to run at here. GO TO THE
ALTER has speed and an outside draw. She was claimed from a race at this level last time and is taking the blinkers
off for new barn which wins at a high percentage with its new claims. KUUIPO will be part of the pace picture here.
She likes this track and is a solid sprinter who is certainly a contender at this level.
SEVENTH RACE
PADAWON is cutting her claiming price in half today and dropping to the lowest level of her career. She’s versatile
and has earned checks both sprinting and routing. She ran second at this distance in her final race of 2016 but bore
out at the break and wound up getting disqualified. She has shown the ability to close, which could be important in
this wide-open race. SHE GOT AWAY needs you to draw a red line through her last start when she was eased after
having to avoid an accident. Prior to that, she hit the board in both — and only — starts for this tag. She’s drawn
outside and should be able to settle into good early position wherever she wants. SKEETER DAVIS has hit the board
in all three starts since her graduation. She was claimed two back and ran second last time when experiencing some
trouble. She’s stepping up a notch which could add to her value.
EIGHTH RACE
LIGHT ONE makes her first start since running second to Fast and Foxy in the Bear Fan last December. She had won
her previous two starts, including one for this tag, in routes before the stakes sprint. She’s a solid sprinter who
likes this track. She’s had a pair of bullets in her past two works, but condition may be a question. EMMY AND I is
running for a tag for the first time since she was a maiden. She’s coming off a front-running allowance score and
has two works since, including a nice five-furlong move for barn that sent out the El Camino Real Derby winner.
TOOMUCHISNOTENOUGH is a stakes-winning mare that has won half of her 16 starts here and is an accomplished
sprinter. She dropped to this level for her last start and scored a solid victory. She has a bullet work since and will
be a pace contender here.
