We pride ourselves on being a ‘mobile learning device’ friendly school that encourages students and staff to explore the productive and creative features of their smart phones, iPads, and Chrome books. We believe it is our responsibility as educators to not only teach our students the proper use of technology, but also about conduct, contribution, and consciousness within the digital world. With that in mind we are asking YOU, the parents, as a vital part of the learning community to echo the following expectations of mobile device use within Rippowam IB Middle School. -While in school mobile devices are to be used for educational or productive purposes only AND under the supervision of an adult. If used otherwise, the school may apply progressive consequences inclusive of device confiscation. -While in school students are responsible for securing their own devices on their person or in their lockers. The school is neither liable or required to locate lost or misplaced devices. Thank you for your support as we move forward with our technology initiative. Jason Martin Principal I B P RESENTS B Y: A NGELA SCHUMANN What is service as action, through community service at Rippowam? Action and service have always been shared values of the IB community. Students take action when they apply what they are learning in the classroom and beyond. IB learners strive to be caring members of the community who demonstrate a commitment to service making a positive difference to the lives of others and to the environment. Service as action is an integral part of the program, especially in the Middle Years Program at Rippowam. In the International Baccalaureate program at Rippowam community service means contributing to the school, local, national or worldwide community to make life better for others. Community service work affords students opportunities to learn about themselves and the community in which they live. We engage students in action or service at our school and ask them to reflect on the experience. Increased social and self-awareness, initiative, time management skills, opportunities for creative expression, teamwork, commitment, elevated self-esteem and person integrity are just some of the potential benefits of participation in community service work in our school.
