Unit Title
Life Writing
Description
In this unit, students read biographies to
identify text structures and language
features. They demonstrate their
knowledge of the language features of a
biography in a reading comprehension.
Students continue their study of life
writing by reading and analysing
autobiographical narratives, including
pictures books. They identify the
narrative structure of texts and the
language features used to imaginatively
recreate a significant life event.

Written
Students create a literary memoir that is
inspired by an abstract noun and is

Motivational Speaking
In this unit, students understand
how text structures and language
features combine in media texts to
influence audiences. Students will
examine how language is used to
persuade in motivational speeches
from different historical, social and
cultural contexts. The text structures
and language features, including
persuasive devices, will be
examined.

Students will deliver a persuasive
motivational speech to promote a
point of view or enable a new way
of seeing.

Black Snake Novel Study: Australia and
Australians in literature
In this unit students listen to, read and view
literature about Australia and Australians,
including the close study of the novel Black
Snake: The Daring of Ned Kelly by Carole
Wilkinson. They explore ideas and viewpoints
about events, issues and characters
represented in the text and examine the ways
language is used by the author to create
characters and to influence the emotions and
opinions of readers.

Imaginative Recount
Written
Students create an imaginative recount to
convey a particular point of view, adapting
stylistic features such as narrative viewpoint,

Expository Speech (Multimodal)
Students present an informative
speech which evaluates the
effectiveness of a particular song in
making a comment on a social issue

Character Response Argument
Written under exam conditions
Students will write an argument to persuade
the reader to accept their point of view about a

In this unit, students listen to and
read a variety of poems and songs
that put forward different
perspectives on a variety of issues.
They examine how poets use stylistic
features, text structures and
language features in poetry to
convey a point of view about an
issue

Development
in English
Free Reading: students read for pleasure for 15-20 minutes three times a week (also in Booster program). Books and other reading material will be provided through
classroom libraries or students can bring their own texts. Students will participate in reflecting on, and sharing what they have read each week.
Words their Way: students participate in a vocabulary growth and spelling development program.
Big Write: students improve their writing skills by generating and sharing ideas about their writing then independently participating in a sustained writing exercise each
week.
YEAR 7 MATHS YEAR OVERVIEW
Term 1
The Number Game
In this unit students convert
between index notation and
expanded form and solve problems
involving square roots and square
numbers. Problems involving
equivalent fractions and express a
quantity as fraction of another.
Students will be create a folio of
work for the Number Game Unit and
solve problems
Term 2
Money and Financial Maths
In this unit students explore the
relationship between fractions,
decimals and percentages, express
one quantity as a percentage of
another. Round, multiply and divide
decimals in a money context.
Calculate and compare unit prices,
investigate and calculate best buys.
Use variables to represent numbers,
create algebraic expressions by
substitution.
Term 3
The Other Angle
In this unit students calculate the
area of rectangles solve problems
involving area and volume. They will
classify triangles and quadrilaterals
by comparing sides and angles,
make generalisations about the sum
of angles in triangles and in
quadrilaterals.
Describe and create translations,
reflections and rotations on the
Cartesian plane
Term 4

In this unit students will identify
sample spaces for single-step
events, conduct one-step chance
experiments, record observed
frequencies in a table. They will be
able to construct stem-and-leaf plots
and dot-plots, calculate mean,
median, mode and range, compare a
range of data displays, describe and
interpret data display

for an ecosystem for this unit.

In this unit students will be able to
understand the water cycle and how
humans affect the water cycle. They

Moving Along
Students build on their knowledge of
how forces affect motion. They
develop understandings of balanced
and unbalanced forces and apply
these to predict and justify
conclusions about changes in
motion. Students build on their
understanding of simple machines to
examine how changes to levers and
pulley systems affect forces within
more complex systems.

Term 4
Earth Science
Students will understand the relative
positions of the Earth, moon and sun
in space and describe the rotations
and orbits of the Earth and moon
relative to the sun. They will identify
how the positions of the Earth,
moon and sun cause different
predictable phenomena such as
eclipses, tides, phases of the moon
and solar phenomena. They will
examine data about weather and
climate from different sources.

In this unit, students will understand

of historical mysteries from the
ancient world.

Ancient Egypt
In this unit, students will learn about
ancient Egyptian society through an
investigation of significant factors
which influenced its development
such as the geography of ancient
Egypt including the influence of the
Nile River on Egyptian life, the role
of key groups and individuals in
ancient Egyptian society, and the
beliefs and rituals associated with
the afterlife.
Term 3- Geography
Water in the World
In this unit, students will gain an
understanding of water as an
environmental resource, examining
its uses and value as well as the way
it connects places as it moves
through the environment. Water is
investigated using studies from
Australia, Asia and Africa.
Term 4-Geography
Place and Liveability
In this unit, students will learn about
the concept of place through an
investigation of liveability. They will
examine factors that influence
liveability and how it is perceived,
the idea that places provide with
services and facilities needed to
support and enhance our lives and
the spaces are planned and
managed by people

YEAR 7 FRENCH YEAR OVERVIEW

Je me présente….
In this unit, students will develop the skills required to introduce
themselves in French and discuss basic personal information such as
name, age, nationality and place of residence as well reflect on cultural
differences between French and Australian schooling systems. Students
will also develop an understanding of the geography of France and
francophone nations. Students will also investigate verb conjugation
and the relationship between personal pronouns and commonly used
regular and irregular verbs.

In this unit, students will be able to name and describe a range of
common household pets and animals. They will develop a working
knowledge of noun gender and will understand and be able to correctly
implement adjectival agreement in their descriptions. Students will also
develop language patterns which will allow them to talk about likes,
dislikes and preferences as well as the use of the negative structure
(ne…pas). Students will examine the formal and informal registers
through the comparison of shopping etiquette in France and Australia
and will be able to adjust language to suit contexts

YEAR 7 Visual Arts/Music OVERVIEW (1 term each)

Term 1
Vis Art :-UNDER THE SEA
Visual Art students in Year 7 will be completing a Collage based on the topic
“Under the Sea”. This artwork will be constructed using the elements of
art.
The work will be influenced by artists Paul Klee and Pamela
Griffith. Students will be expected to keep a visual journal to record ideas,
processes and statements about their artwork.
Term 2
Music:-POP STARS - GUITAR
Over the course of one term students will cover two principal aspects of
music; Fundamental music theory and guitar performance.
Within fundamental music theory students will be learning how to read
music in both treble and bass clefs, understand leger lines and the Grand
Staff, identify note values using the correct terminology and interpret time
signatures.
The performance aspect of this unit will see students learn seven chords on
the guitar, which then students will use to perform a recent pop song.
