Scheria has a X12 baler right next to the production area for compacting plastic film, which is collected in large blue bags at the production line. This has reduced the number of containers needed for
waste from nine to five, to be collected every week.
HYGIENE AND TIDINESS IS AN IMPORTANT ISSUE
At Scheria Versdienst in Holland hygiene and tidines are vital when preparing chicken, turkey and
game products for the Dutch supermarkets. To improve on tidiness, the Stompwijk wholesaler
purchased two balers for compacting cardboard and plastic waste.
In the 27,000 feet2 warehouse where
Scheria cuts, seasons and packs meat
products, each activity has its own area.
There are cold rooms, freezers, cutting
rooms, packaging and sticker areas. “For
hygiene reasons meat should never go
out by the door it came in, and the whole
process must be chilled”, says Sjoerd van
Santen, one of the three directors. “At
the end of this we have, of course, a lot
of packaging waste. Everything that
comes into the slaughterhouse is

Fairly quickly after the installation of the
X30 AD baler Scheria purchased the
smaller model X12 to be used for plastic
film. This is collected in large blue rubbish bags, which they used to throw outside in a container. Sjoerd: “We did try to
compress it manually, but plastic springs
back. So every week we had nine containers full waste and a great deal of air”.
Scheria placed the X12 baler right next to
the production area. As it is used for
meat packaging film, the rubbish bags are

Business advantages
· Cut total waste handling costs
· Better internal logistics
· Improved productivity
INDUSTRIAL COMPANIES
Typical industrial companies receive large amounts of goods to be used in their daily operation, leaving bulks of empty packaging materials to be dealt with. Lean waste handling lands directly on the
bottom line.
Too much internal transport
Various raw materials and spare parts are often supplied on pallets, carefully protected by cardboard and wrapped
in soft plastic. Once unpacked the empty packaging is collected and transported to large containers outside. But
handling uncompressed waste takes time and is expensive in collection and rental fees.
Optimize your processes
Place a baler close to the production line and directly at the waste source. Collection of highly compacted bales is
easier, less frequent and far more cost efficient. And your staff need no longer cut and fold empty cardboard boxes
or handle bulky plastic. They can spend more time on core activities and become more productive.
