The Weird Beard was a great DJ on Louisville’s WAKY (790 AM) in the 60s. Note the
sock hop bulletin board. It was actually a jock at competitor station WKLO (1080
AM) who flipped the Rugbys’ A-side “Stay With Me” and played the B-side “You, I” propelling it to #1 the week of July 4, 1969. His name was Montgomery Hogg. Ah,
the days when a local band could be #1 on the 2 AM stations in their hometown and
go on to #24 (Billboard) and #21 (Cashbox) nationally!
