Dear BMS Families:

Another year has come to an end and I would like to take this
opportunity to thank you for a GREAT year! It seems like we
just opened the doors for our annual Open House and here we are
saying good-bye for summer vacation!
This year our student body continued to grow and excel. Over
57% of our students made the Honor Roll at least once.
Until next school year make sure to take some quality time with
your families this summer. Whether it is going to a ballgame, a
BBQ, fishing, camping, or whatever it is that your family enjoys
about summer, get out and do it. I would also encourage you to
read with your child(ren) throughout the summer. Keeping the
brain active helps cut down on the summer drop off.

VOLUNTEERS
2016/17 school year parent volunteers need to complete an
annual background check through any school office or at
central office. Ichats need to be done each school year.
SCHOOL PERCEPTION SURVEY RESULTS
In January, staff, students and parents were invited
to complete a perception survey.
 A majority of parents responded that they support their
child’s learning at home and that they feel good about themselves as parents.
 Most parents reported that they respect the school’s principal and teachers. Parents also feel welcome at Bath Middle
school and feel their child is safe going to and from school.
Areas of some concern (rated between neutral and agree on
the survey):
 My child’s teacher helps me to help my child learn at home.
 Bath Middle School succeeds at preparing children for future work.
 Bath Middle School students show respect for other students.
Similarly, some snapshots from the student survey include:
 A majority of students reported that their family believes
they can do well in school and wants them to do well in
school.
 Most students feel they do not have choices in what they
learn in school. Many also believe that students do not treat
them with respect.

NWEA Report
Enclosed you will find your child’s NWEA test results. These tests determine your child’s instructional level and measure academic growth throughout the school year. Students are tested in the fall, winter and spring in the areas of reading, language,
math and science.
NWEA MAP tests are unique in that they are adaptive tests your child took on a computer. That means that the test became more
difficult the more questions your child answered correctly. When your child incorrectly answered a question, the test became
easier. Therefore, your child took a test specifically created for his or her learning level. Test results are used by staff to monitor
student growth, as well as for class placement.
The enclosed report shows your child’s scores compared to Bath peers, as well as a grade level norm based on peers the same
age. Please review this information with your child and ask them about the tests they took. If you have any questions regarding
the report or NWEA assessment, please contact Mrs. Jonas.
There is also a Parent Took Kit located on the Bath Middle School Webpage (under Resources and Forms) that provides further
detail and explanations of the assessment.
