Mathematics
Within maths this term we are completing our
SATs preparation – practice papers and analysis of
how to improve our marks further.
We will also be looking at the following topics:
ratio and proportion, probability, number work,
algebra, money, mental maths strategies and
applying problem solving skills.
The Arts (Music, Art Design and Dance)
Within Music we will be learning the songs for our
end of year production, developing our use of
harmonies and preparation to perform in front of
an audience.
Dance – We will be studying Bhangra dancing, the
significant dance movements, use of rhythm and
creating of sequences in groups to music.
Time and Place (History and Geography)
Within history we will be looking at life in the Indus
Valley. We will be studying the location of the
Indus Valley and its historical significance.

Term: Summer 1
Theme: The Hobbit
English
We will be starting to read The Hobbit and
completing a study of work around this text. We
will be studying the features of different types of
writing and applying our grammar and
punctuation skills to each genre.
We will be focussing upon descriptive writing, non
chronological report writing and biographical
writing. In addition we will be completing KS2
SATs papers.
Visits/ Inspire/Assemblies/Tasks to complete
with family.

Beliefs and Citizenship (RE, Citizenship and
Foreign Languages in KS 2)
RE - The Sikh way of life.
We will be studying the features of the
Gurdwara- inside and out -Nishan Sahib, langar,
Guru Granth Sahib, Baisakhi celebration. Life of
the Gurus, particularly Guru Nanak and Guru
Gobind Singh. In addition we will look at the 5K’s
and their meanings.
French- we will be studying every day routines
and timetables.
Health and Well Being (PE, Personal, Social, Health
and Emotional education)
Within PSHE we will be looking at: Parliament, how
MPs are elected, how the government is formed,
the opposition, how laws are made. In addition, we
will find out the difference between the House of
Commons and the House of Lords.
Innovation and Enquiry (Science, Design and
Technology, ICT)
Within DT we will be investigating how control
systems are used in everyday life – fairgrounds.
We will learn the appropriate vocabulary related
to control systems and develop and
understanding that there are a variety of
products in our every day lives which incorporate
a pulley and a drive belt and are driven by a
motor or a computer. Within science we will be
studying the topic of micro-organisms. To know
that micro-organisms cause many diseases, the
range of diseases caused by micro-organisms and
to know that decay caused by micro-organisms is
useful in the environment.
To know that mould on food is caused by microorganisms.
