Read the given passage and answer the question that follows:
Passage There is no gravity in space. It means that very simple jobs are complicated. Some shuttle astronauts say that even a simple job like
changing the batteries in a cassette player can take five times longer in space! The astronauts float, the batteries float, the machines
float and all things float in different directions!
Inside a space shuttle, there are controls on all the surfaces, and astronauts use velcro strips to attach themselves or other objects.
There are special cupboards for sleeping, or astronauts can use sleeping bags, which can be attached to the wall, ceiling or floor.
Astronauts have personal menus of dehydrated foods and normal foods like biscuits or chocolates. Eating is quite easy, but
astronauts can only drink with straws. Drinks are in bags. People always ask astronauts how they go to the toilet. The answer is ‘with difficulty’! There is one toilet for the seven or eight astronauts and it resembles a vacuum cleaner.
What do people eat on a space shuttle?

C.

Straws
Dehydrated foods
They do not eat anything, they only drink

Read the following passage and answer the question that follows:
Passage The atomic bombing of the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945 stands for maybe the most important and evil
development in warfare in the 20th century. By the early 1940s, scientists in Britain and the USA were rapidly developing the
technology that would lead to making of an atomic weapon. This research conducted under the deepest secrecy for fear of Nazi
scientists, who could go to any length to obtain the necessary data to enable them to produce a weapon of their own. For whatever
ulterior motive, Hiroshima became the target of the first weapon fired at 08.15 hrs on 6th August 1945. The all clear had in fact
sounded from an initial alert when the bomb was dropped. It was carried by a B29 super fortress called ‘Enola Gay’, and exploded about 602 yards over the city producing the equivalent of 15 kiloton’s of energy. Eyewitnesses reported seeing a parachute falling followed by a blast of intense heat. Between 130,000 and 200,000 people either died, or were injured, or disappeared. The
Japanese government attempted to play down the shock and significance of this gloomy development, which was followed a few
days later by a second atomic bombing. This weapon had been destined for Kokura on the southern Japanese island of Kyushu, but
the cloud cover forced the crew to attack their secondary target of the shipyards of Nagasaki. The Nagasaki bomb was of about 20
kiloton’s but did less damage because of the local topography. It exploded above Urakami to the north of the port. The injuries and destruction from the two bombs resulted from three reasons: the intense blast, similar to that from conventional weapons but on a
much larger scale; thermal radiation, causing burns and producing fires; and nuclear radiation, which caused death and injury from
damaged tissues. Even though more people died during the war in Tokyo, but the atomic bombings were significant because they
caused death on a huge scale from one bomb dropped by one plane. Hiroshima and Nagasaki remain effective symbols and a sterile
controversy over the use of the atomic weapons continues. In purely armed forces terms, the bombs proved critical in persuading the
Japanese government to think the unthinkable and accept defeat.

A.
B.
C.
D.
Melancholy
Miserable
Ominous
Cheerful

Passage 1
A new painting was hanging in one corner of the India Art Gallery. Throughout the day, visitors stood before the new exhibit and
speculated as to what it represented.
“I think it’s a terrifying monster,” said Misty. “There’s no name on it, but I’m sure it was drawn by a famous artist.”
“1 would say that it’s a picture of a park as seen from an airplane,” mused Sreenivas. “I see many trees and roads.”
Miss Pittie, the local art critic for the New India Weekly, made her pronouncement. “This is clearly a masterpiece created by an artist who wishes to be anonymous at this stage of his or her career. The brilliant strokes of colour symbolize a person who is looking back
at an exciting lifetime of accomplishments !”
At that moment, Mr. G.V. Reddy, the gallery curator, entered the room. “Isn’t it great?” he asked with a big smile on his face. “My three year old did that this morning. He says it’s a maze. I think it’s amazing!”

stairs. Suddenly the roar of a T-rex rent the air. His hair stood on end. The vibration of giant footsteps was drawing near. His heart

Read the following passage and answer the question that follows:
Passage One realizes the benefits of boredom only when one is latent or in a state of restlessness. It may look futile to some, but to some it is
one of life’s greatest luxuries. This luxury is not available to creatures that spend all their time pursuing mere survival. To be bored, is to stop reacting to the external world, and to explore the internal one. It is in these times of reflection that people often discover
something new, whether it is an epiphany of a relationship or a new theory about the way universe works. Granted, many people
emerge from boredom feeling that they have accomplished nothing. But is accomplishment really the point of life? There is a strong
argument that boredom is very often compared to a faraway lost state of emptiness-an essential human emotion that underlines and is
a pre-requisite for cultivating art, literature, philosophy and science
Inventions and growth in cultural avenue is due to

Constant mental tussle

READ THE PASSAGE AND ANSWER THE QUESTIONS THAT FOLLOW.
For some time now, I have been trying to decide who makes the world’s best ice cream. I have narrowed my list down to four manufacturers : Bobbins Naturals, Wall’s, Wunderburst or Marshal.
Let’s start with Bobbins. They make very good ice cream. They have lots and lots of yummy flavours, but that’s really not important
because I always get coffee flavour. They make the best coffee ice cream in the world. I’ve never drunk real hot coffee, but people tell me that Bobbins’ coffee ice cream tastes just like the real thing. Besides, Bobbins uses all natural ingredients to make their ice cream which is a really good idea.
Second, there is Wall’s. Wall’s makes excellent ice cream. Like Bobbins, Wall’s uses natural ingredients. But they only make three different flavours-strawberry, vanilla, and choconut-but they make them really creamy and fruity. Especially the strawberry. Every
bite of it reminds me of the strawberries that I used to eat at my gran’s house. The vanilla is wonderful. It is very smooth and has a fresh, creamy flavour. But the choconut is the best. It is made with real cocoa beans from Columbia.
I didn’t know where Columbia is, so I looked for it on a map. I discovered that it is in South America! That’s a long way to go to get cocoa, so it must be good. I would say that the only drawback to Wall’s ice cream is that they only make three different flavours.
Third, we have Wunderburst. Wunderburst ice cream is okay. They don’t have many good flavours. Actually, the only Wunderburst flavour I like is Caramel. It is vanilla with little chunks of toffee in it. As you eat the ice cream, you can crunch through the toffee.
That’s pretty fun.
Finally, there is Marshal. Marshal ice cream is mediocre. The only good thing about Marshal is that it is relatively inexpensive. You
can buy a whole carton of Marshal ice cream for 50.00. That’s only my two week allowance.
Q. According to the passage, the author likes Bobbins ice cream because it ________.
A.
B.
C.
D.
is all natural
is made in Columbia
comes in toffee flavour
is mediocre

READ THE TEXT AND ANSWER THE QUESTIONS.
Japan is an island nation located in the Pacific Ocean. It is known as the land of the rising sun because of the characters that make up
its name mean ‘sunorigin’. It is technologically very advanced and is very famous for Shinkansen. In English, they are known as ‘bullet trains’. However, the literal translation means new trunk line. Bullet trains are high speed passenger rail trains. The term ‘bullet’ is due to the pointed nose of the train that is like that of a bullet along with its sleek and aerodynamic appearance.
These trains are operated by Japan Railways. Running at speeds of up to 320 kilometres per hour, the Shinkansen is known for
punctuality, comfort, safety and efficiency. There are two types of coaches - Ordinary and the Green car. Both have comfortable
chairs facing forward with a generous amount of foot space, although the Green car is more comfortable and offers more leg room.
The network consists of multiple lines which have been exclusively built for and used only by the Shinkansen trains. However, the
Shinkansen has multiple train categories ranging from the fastest that stop only at major stations to the slowest that stop at every
station.
The original service began in 1964, connecting the cities of Tokyo and Osaka. The trains travelled at approximately 125 miles per
hour (200 kilometres per hour) making the journey time between the two cities at about 2.5 hours.
Over six billion passengers have travelled on the railway since 1964 with no major accidents.
The success of these trains led to further development of rail in other European and Asian countries. Two of the more notable
services are Alta Velocidad Espanola (AVE) and Train a Grande Vitesse (TGV) from Spain and France respectively. TGV has an
extensive network and has carried in excess of 1.3 billion passengers since the service began in 1981. The AVE started 11 years
later and is planning an expansion which would create a larger network than the French line.
Riding in a bullet train feels like gliding through air. Even though they travel at such high speeds, the ride is smooth and peaceful. It is a
great system and has benefited people by reducing the time of travel. However, there is a downside to this. Travelling by bullet trains
is quite expensive. A ticket to travel to another city could cost you almost as much as an air ticket. However, train stations are
located in the middle of a city, compared to airports that are usually on the outskirts, making it more convenient and providing value
for money.
Which bullet train has carried the maximum number of passengers?
A.
B.
C.
D.
The Green car
TGV
