Using drugs even just once can damage the central nervous system messing up your
mind and body.
2. Inhalants such as paint thinners, solvents
and glue damage your brain, respiratory
tract, lungs, stomach, kidneys, liver, heart
and bone marrow.
3. Brain – Atrophy of the brain caused by
destruction of brain cells (loss of
consciousness, memory loss, hallucinations,
paranoia)

brain of a drug user.
4. Eyes – Damage to the optical nerves and
hemorrhaging at the back of the eyes.
(vision impairment, loss of vision)
5. Teeth –Tooth decay
6. Respiratory tract and lungs – Damage to
membrane (coughing)
7. Heart – High blood pressure
Photo- Damaged membrane can cause
acute bronchitis which can be fatal.
8. Liver – Destruction of liver cells (loss of
appetite, jaundice, excess abdominal fluid)

9. Esophagus and stomach – hemorrhaging
due to damage to the stomach membrane
(stomach pain, nausea and vomiting)
(L) Normal (R) Damaged The stomach
membrane is damaged and bleeding.
10. Kidney – Destruction of kidney cells (loss
of protein in the urine)
Photo – Dead kidney cells
11. Bone Marrow – Hindrance of red blood
cell production (anemia)
12. Reproductive organs – Atrophy (irregular
periods, decreased fertility).
13. Stimulants damage
your brain, stomach, heart
and kidneys.

14. Mental illness(Flashbacks)
The abuse of drugs can cause long-lasting
damage. Hallucinations, paranoia, and other
symptoms of mental illness can result from
just one use. Even after seemingly successful
treatment, mental disorders may be triggered
easily by external stimuli such as alcohol and
stress. These are known as ‘flashbacks’.

19. Marijuana damages your brain, lungs,
respiratory tracts and heart.
According to a report* by the World Health
Organization (WHO), the effects of cannabis use
include impairment to memory and learning
ability, perceptual changes and
depersonalization. Dependency on the drug may
also exist even after cessation of its use.
* “Cannabis: a health perspective and research
agenda” (1997), Programme on Substance Abuse
(WHO)
Marijuana is recognized as a harmful substance
and as such is prohibited worldwide. Some of
the effects of smoking marijuana are: strange
sensations, mood swings, and loss of motivation.

23. MDMA and other synthetically
manufactured drugs damage your brain, heart,
and respiratory tract.
24.・Mental illness ・ Damage to the heart
MDMA is a dangerous drug that is both
stimulant and a hallucinogen. MDMA is
synthetically manufactured. It has stimulant
qualities like that of amphetamines and
hallucinogenic qualities similar to mescaline
making it an extremely addictive and dangerous
drug.
25.Other influences
Intravenous drug abuse can cause infectious
diseases such as AIDS and hepatitis.
The use of marijuana can also damage sperm
while using cocaine can cause hereditary
abnormalities, is harmful to unborn fetuses and
can cause miscarriage.
26
26. Law-evading drugs damage your brain.
27. Mental illness
They are substances that has slightly changed the
ingredient of drugs regulated by law, and similar to
narcotics and stimulants that are out of reach of the law.
Some of them are sold in stores and on internet as "legal
hearbs," "incense," "aroma." They have huge, dreadful
influence on human body by stimulating the central
nervous system, and causing symptoms such as
respiratory arrest, loss of consciousness, excitement,
hallucination, and obnubilation, resulting in death in
some cases.
27
28. Psychoactive substances damage your brain,
respiratory tract, lungs and heart.
28
29. Mental illness
●Emotional instability ●Ataxia of gait (trouble
walking)
Psychoactive substances such as sleeping pills and
mood stabilizers stimulate the central nervous
system and affect mental functions. They are known
as stimulants. Many psychoactive substances can be
obtained from doctors with a prescription. These
drugs are also manufactured and sold illegally by
organized crime groups who also are increasingly
obtaining drugs by vicious, cunning measures, such
as threatening physicians and pharmacists.

30. Cocaine
・Mental illness
・Brain hemorrhage
・Vision impairment
・Seizures
・Perforation of the
nasal septum
・Heart attack
・Respiratory failure
31. Butane gas
damages your lungs
and respiratory
tract.
32 . Paralysis of the respiratory
tract
Inhaling butane gas such as
lighter fluid and organic
solvents is extremely
dangerous. It has resulted
in many explosions and
deaths.
33The starting point of drug abuse prevention is to
educate non-users about drugs. Another fundamental
key to solving drug abuse is communication. This can
begin at the grassroots level at home, at school, and in
the workplace and the community. We need to unite
together to create an environment where we say ‘Yes
to life’ and ‘No to drugs’.
34
34.is drug abuse?
Drug abuse refers to the improper use and dosage of drugs
and medicine which deviate from intended purposes. It also
can refer to the illicit use of drugs never intended for
medical purposes. Medicinal drugs are originally designed
for medical treatment and testing. Using them for fun or
for pleasure, even if only once, is equivalent to drug abuse.
35
35. Stimulants:
Amphetamines, Cocaine, MDMA
(Ecstasy)
36
37. Depressants:
Marijuana, Psychoactive drugs (soporific drugs,,
anti-anxiety drugs, etc.), Opiates (heroin, etc.),
Cannabis resin (hashish), Cannabis cigarette (joint).
*Excludes physician-diagnosed medicines used
properly.
36. Hallucinogens:
LSD (blotting paper), Magic
Mushrooms (mushrooms),
Solvents (thinner, toluene, glue
and adhesives, etc.), Marijuana
37
38
38. Example of Illegal drugs
・Herbal ・Liquid ・Powder-based
・Heart shot
39. United Nation’s ‘Political Declaration and Plan
of Action on International Cooperation towards an
Integrated and Balanced Strategy to Counter the
World Drug Problem’ (2009-2019)
40. Today, drug abuse has spread visibly across the
world to become one of the most serious social
problems facing humankind, threatening not only
human lives, but also the safety and stability of
societies and countries. At the fifty-second session of
the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs, held in
March, 2009, a new political declaration, the
‘Political Declaration and Plan of Action on
International Cooperation towards an Integrated and
Balanced Strategy to Counter the World Drug
Problem’ was enacted, setting out the aim of
eliminating drug abuse by 2019.
