My major at Penn State is broadcast journalism and to date I have worked at a Top 40 radio station, a sports station and a public television network. This experience working in radio and television will help me excel at NBC. This fall, I am a production intern with WPSU which is the Public Broadcast Service for State College as well as the greater Alleghney area. I work with Diane Espy, a senior producer and director for WPSU. She is currently filming for an online educational course through TopCorp. I assist her on shoots for the documentary as well as transcribe interviews and log footage. I also have experience behind the camera as a producer for “In The Game,” a sports show run by students at Penn State. Last fall, I was a football production intern with ESPN Radio 1450 in State College. I recorded a different high school football game every week and cut highlights from each one. The highlights were used on the Friday Night Scoreboard Show. At Penn State home games, I recorded Coach Bill Obrien’s post-game press conference and interviewed the players. The audio was then streamed back to the station so ESPN 1450 could air the conference. Last summer, I was an intern at Hot 99.5 (WIHT), a Top 40 radio station in Rockville, Maryland. I primarily worked in the studio with DJs researching topics for their shows and writing blog posts. When I was not in the studio, I segued the syndicated programs Hot 99.5 runs at night. I collected data from the Mediabase music charts and researched which songs were trending in the U.S. Using this data, I pitched songs to the music director for eventual airplay at the station. During spring semester of my sophomore year, I joined Penn State’s ComRadio to gain more experience on how a radio station operates. As a result, I was a part of ComRadio’s NFL draft coverage which required me to research and analyze players coming out of college and forecast the NFL Draft. I was also a beat writer for the Varsity Men’s Lacrosse team. This required me to have sideline access to the games, record stats and make notes on game action, interview players and write a summary of the match. I was part of the broadcast crew for State College High School lacrosse games as well. I look forward to talking with you regarding an internship with NBC Universal. Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely, Julian Pritcher
