Parents Guide to Food Service

October 12-16th
This year’s National School Lunch Week
theme is a great reminder of how far school
lunch has come in the last few years. “School
Lunch Snapshot” promotes sharing how school
lunch tastes good, looks great, and is good for us!
Arbor Management, Inc. Lunches provide
students with a picture perfect plate of lean
protein, whole grains, fruit, vegetables, and low
fat or fat free dairy within age-appropriate
calorie, fat, and sodium levels. Check your menu

PUMPKIN
What is Farm Fresh Produce? It’s a Nutrition Program
created by Arbor’s Dietitians to help increase student
exposure to fruits and vegetables. Dietitian-inspired
recipes featuring the produce will be highlighted on the
menus along with nutrition education in the lunchroom.
GROW Pumpkins are a versatile plant; they can grow on all
continents except Antarctica.
NUTRITION Did you know pumpkin seeds have antiviral,
antibacterial, and antifungal properties? Try them roasted!
FLAVOR Pumpkins have a tangy, sweet, buttery and nutty
flavor with a smooth and tender texture.
TRIVIA The largest pumpkin ever grown weighed 1,340
pounds and was grown in Stillwater, MN.
Developing good habits earlier in life is an
investment in your future! Start this fall and get a
head start on New Year’s resolutions. Below are
tips to encourage healthy habits in your family!
 Make physical activity fun: Activities will
become habits if they are more enjoyable!
 Set realistic goals: Small steps can make a
big difference in health over time.
 Be a good role model: Research shows
children are likely to mimic habits they see
at home. Be a good example!
 Make meal times a family time: Eating
meals together creates a positive food
environment and provides a great
opportunity for role modeling.
 Keep things positive: Set backs are a
normal part of growth! Be sure to celebrate
successes.
